Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 8, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-4 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Players of the Day are the DSL offense, which scored 19 runs, led by Roberth Castillo, Sebastian Rojas, Christopher Vargas and Luis Estrella. Other standouts: Leo Bernal, Matt Koperniak, Braden Davis, Ryan Weingartner, Gabriel Chinchilla and Juan Garcia.

Memphis 11 at Gwinnett 6 (10 innings)

The Triple-A Redbirds beat the Stripers in extra innings in Georgia on Tuesday.

In his Memphis return, starter Brandt Thompson pitched four innings, gave up five runs on six hits, walked two and struck out two.

Cade Winquest and Scott Blewett hurled two scoreless innings each. Tink Hence surrendered one run in the final two innings but received the win.

Gwinnett went up 3-0 in the second inning. Memphis scored in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Nolan Gorman.

The Stripers answered with two runs in the home fourth to increase the lead to 5-1.

A three-run home run by Leo Bernal in the sixth shrunk the lead to 5-4.

In the top of the ninth, the Redbirds took a 6-5 lead. Colton Ledbetter walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Matt Koperniak hit a two-run home run.

Gwinnett tied the game in the bottom of the ninth against Hence.

In the 10th, Memphis rallied for five runs to go ahead 11-6. With Joshua Báez on second base, Bernal singled to plate him. Bligh Madris singled. Noah Mendlinger was hit by a pitch. Koperniak singled to plate Bernal and Madris. Mendlinger scored on a single by César Prieto. Koperniak came home on a sac fly by Thomas Saggese.

The offense scored 11 runs on 10 hits. Bernal was 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Koperniak was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Prieto was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Ledbetter was 2-for-4.

Gorman made a fielding error.

Memphis is 6-7 in the second half.

Wednesday’s game: at Gwinnett, LHP Pete Hansen (1-3, 4.72) vs. Garrett Baumann RHP (1-1, 11.49) 5:35 CT.

Springfield 3 at Tulsa 4

The Double-A Cardinals lost to the Drillers in a 4-3 walkoff on Tuesday.

Starter Braden Davis pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up one run on three hits, walked three and fanned eight.

Randel Clemente relieved Davis and surrendered two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Andrew Schultz threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Tyler Bradt yielded one run in 1/3 of an inning and took the loss.

The Cardinals took the lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Travis Honeyman. They added a run in the top of the third on a bases-empty home run by Dakota Harris.

The Drillers scored one run in the home third to cut the lead to 2-1.

Springfield made it 3-1 in the sixth. Rainiel Rodriguez singled, stole second base, and scored on an error.

Tulsa tied the game with two runs in the seventh and walked it off in the ninth, 4-3.

The Cardinals scored three runs on five hits. The offense was 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.

Rodriguez stole his sixth base. Miguel Ugueto was caught stealing.

Springfield is 9-4 in the second half.

Wednesday’s game: at Tulsa, TBA (SPR) vs. Adam Serwinowski LHP (6-2, 5.33) 7:00 CT.

Peoria 4 at Quad Cities 14

The High-A Chiefs were routed by the River Bandits in a 14-4 road loss on Tuesday.

Starter Yhoiker Fajardo pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up two runs on three hits, walked two and fanned five.

Gerardo Salas relieved Fajardo and surrendered one run in 1 2/3 innings. Salas took the loss. Jose Davila relinquished seven runs in the sixth. Jason Savacool yielded four runs in the seventh. Jawilme Ramírez tossed a scoreless ninth.

Peoria took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Tai Peete singled and advanced to second on an error. Jalin Flores singled to score Peete. Jack Gurevitch singled. Flores advanced to third on an error. Flores came home on a sac fly by Michael Dattalo.

Quad Cities answered with a run in the home first, tied the game in the third and took the lead at 3-2 in the fifth.

The River Bandits continued to add on, scoring seven runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to blow up the lead to 14-2.

The Chiefs added two runs in the eighth for the final score of 14-4. Luis Pino walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Gurevitch singled to plate Pino. Gurevitch scored on a single by José Suárez.

Peoria scored four runs on nine hits. Gurevitch was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Ian Petrutz was picked off and caught stealing. Sammy Hernandez was charged with catcher interference.

The Chiefs are 6-9 in the second half.

Wednesday’s game: at Quad Cities, Nate Dohm RHP (1-4, 7.47) vs. TBA (QC) 6:30 CT.

Palm Beach 7 at Daytona 12

The Low-A Cardinals fell to the Tortugas in a 12-7 road loss on Tuesday.

Starter Cade Crossland pitched just one inning, gave up four runs on four hits, walked two and struck out two. Crossland took the loss.

Yadiel Batista relieved Crossland and surrendered five runs, four earned, in three innings. Jesús García allowed one unearned run in two innings. Anthony Watts yielded one run in the seventh. Antoni Cuello relinquished one run in the eighth.

Daytona went up 4-0 in the first inning and added three runs in the second to lead 7-0.

Palm Beach put up four runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 7-4. Jonathan Mejía walked. Chase Heath and Trevor Haskins singled. Sebastian Dos Santos walked and Mejía scored. Ryan Weingartner doubled to plate Heath, Haskins and Dos Santos.

The Tortugas scored one run in the home third to increase the lead to 8-4.

The Cardinals added three runs in the top of the fourth to shrink the lead to 8-7.  Matthew Miura singled and stole second base. Heath was hit by a pitch. Haskins doubled to plate Miura. Heath came home on a ground out by Dos Santos. Haskins scored on a passed ball.

Daytona scored single runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings to win the game 12-7.

The Cardinals scored seven runs on six hits. Haskins was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Weingartner had three RBI. Dos Santos drove in two. Heath scored two runs.

Miura stole his 12th base of the season. Mejía was caught stealing.

Mejía and Dos Santos each made a throwing error. Chase Davis had an outfield assist at third base.

The Cardinals are 10-6 in the second half.

Wednesday’s game: at Daytona, TBA vs. TBA 5:35 CT

FCL Cardinals 0 at FCL Mets 1 (seven innings)

The rookie Cardinals were blanked by the Mets by a 1-0 score on Tuesday.

Starter Gabriel Chinchilla pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed three hits, walked three and struck out two.

Andrew Bolívar relieved Chinchilla and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Yordy Herrera surrendered one run in the final 2/3 innings and took the loss.

The game was scoreless until the final half inning of the game when the Mets pushed across a run to win the game 1-0 in a walk off.

The Cardinals managed only two hits, singles by Cristopher Lebrón and Royelny Strop. The offense was 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

Andru Arthur stole his first base. Strop was caught stealing. Bracewell Taveras made a throwing error.

The Cardinals are 14-26 on the season and are in last place in the FCL East.

Wednesday’s game: vs. FCL Marlins, TBA vs TBA 11:00 am CT.

DSL Cardinals 19, DSL Rangers Blue 12

The Dominican Cardinals beat the Rangers Blue in a 19-12 slugfest on Tuesday.

Starter Juan García pitched five scoreless innings, allowed four hits, walked one and struck out three to earn his first win.

Jordan Beltrán relieved García and surrendered four runs, three earned, in 1 1/3 innings.

Jhon Cabrera threw 2/3 of a scoreless inning. Andey Garrido allowed three runs in 2/3 of an innings, and Domingo Mejía yielded three runs in the final 1 1/3 innings.

The Cardinals went up 6-0 in the third inning. Diego Conseción hit an inside-the-park home run. Lucas Takahashi and Roberth Castillo walked. Sebastian Rojas was hit by a pitch. Michael Cordero was hit by a pitch and Takahashi scored. Luis Estrella blasted a grand slam.

The Cardinals added four runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 10-0.  Takahashi walked. Castillo was hit by a pitch. Rojas hit a three-run home run. Estrella walked. Christopher Vargas plated Estrella on a double.

The Cardinals continued to blow up the score with a six-run sixth inning to increase the lead to 16-0. Rojas and Cordero singled and they advanced on a wild pitch. Estrella walked. Vargas singled to score Rojas and Cordero. Estrella and Vargas advanced on a wild pitch. Jhonny Chapparo singled. Conseción walked and Estrella came home. Vargas scored on a walk by Takahashi.

The Rangers Blue got on the board with four runs in both the seventh and eighth to cut the lead to 16-8.

The Cardinals answered with three runs in the home eighth to strengthen the lead to 19-8. The Rangers Blue scored two runs in the ninth to bring the final score to 19-10.

The Cardinals scored 19 runs on 14 hits. Castillo was 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Rojas was 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Vargas was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Estrella had four RBI and three runs scored. Conseción drove in two and scored two runs. Chapparo was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Takahashi scored three runs. Cordero scored two runs.

Castillo was caught stealing. Conseción made a throwing error.

The Cardinals are 14-12 on the season and are in third place in the DSL Southeast.
