The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-3 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DH Aaron McKeithan, went 3-for-4 with four RBI in Peoria’s win. Other standouts include Moises Gomez and Tink Hence.
Results for games played on Tuesday, July 4.
The Memphis Redbirds fell to the Indians by three runs on Tuesday. In his Triple-A debut, starter Brandon Komar pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up seven runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked two. Komar, who stepped in ahead of announced starter Zack Thompson, took the loss.
Jake Walsh surrendered one run in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Grant Black tossed the final two scoreless innings.
Indianapolis went up 2-0 in the first inning. In the top of the third, Memphis cut the lead to 2-1. Matt Koperniak doubled and scored on a double by Moises Gomez.
The Indians added three runs in the home third to increase their lead to 5-1. They scored two more runs in the fourth to widen the tally to 7-1.
The Redbirds put up four runs in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 7-5. Nick Raposo and Masyn Winn singled. Matt Koperniak singled to score Raposo. Gomez followed with a three-run home run.

Indianapolis scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Gomez was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Koperniak was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Raposo was 3-for-4. Winn was 2-for-5.
Memphis is 1-6 in the second half, 40-42 on the season, and in last place in the International League West, 5 games back of St. Paul.
Wednesday’s game: at Indianapolis, TBA (MEM) vs. Kyle Nicolas RHP (0-1, 12.27) 6:05 CT.
The Cardinals topped the Sod Poodles in a one run victory on Tuesday at Hammons Field. Starter Tink Hence pitched five innings, gave up one run on six hits, struck out five and walked one.

Nick Trogrlic-Iverson relieved Hence and surrendered five runs, one earned, in 1 2/3 innings. Jose Martinez relinquished two runs, one earned, in 1 1/3 innings. Martinez was awarded the win. Logan Sawyer tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save.
Amarillo took the lead 1-0 in the third inning, then made it 2-0 in the top of the sixth. Springfield answered with five runs in the home half of the sixth. Arquimedes Gamboa and L.J. Jones singled. Victor Scott II doubled and Gamboa scored. Jones scored on a sac fly by Pedro Pages. Chandler Redmond thumped a two-run home run, and Jacob Buchberger followed with a solo shot to put the Cardinals in the lead 5-2.

The Sod Poodles responded with five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 lead. The Cardinals quickly answered with one run in the home seventh to cut the lead to 7-6. Jose Alvarez singled and later scored on a ground out by Jones.
Amarillo made it 8-6 in the top of the eighth before Springfield scored three runs in the bottom of that inning to regain the lead 9-8. Nick Dunn reached on an error. Errol Robinson and Redmond singled. Buchberger drew a walk and Dunn scored. Mike Antico grounded into a force out and Robinson was out at home. Jose Alvarez plated Redmond and Buchberger on a double.

Redmond was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Alvarez was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Buchberger had two RBI. Every player in the lineup had a hit except Pages, who drove in a run.
On the base paths, Dunn was caught stealing for the sixth time. In the field, Buchberger and Dunn each made a fielding error. Pages had an error on a pickoff. Hence picked a runner off first base.
Springfield is 3-4 in the second half, 37-39 on the season, and is in third place in the Texas League North, 2 games back of Arkansas.
Wednesday’s game: vs. Amarillo, RHP Connor Lunn (3-5, 4.91) vs. Peter Solomon RHP (0-0, 5.00) 6:35 CT.
The Chiefs beat the Cubs with a late inning rally on Tuesday night. Starter Trent Baker pitched six innings, gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out 10.
Andrew Marrero surrendered one run in two inning of relief to earn his first win of the season. Edwin Nunez tossed a scoreless ninth.
South Bend scored four runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Peoria put up one run in the fourth when Jimmy Crooks doubled and scored on a single by Aaron McKeithan.
The Chiefs tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the eighth on a solo home run by Ramon Mendoza and a two-run single from McKeithan.

The Cubs answered with one run in the home half of the eighth to retake the lead 5-4.
In the ninth, Peoria scored five runs to lead 9-5. Alex ladisernia blasted a three-run home run. Nathan Church was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by R.J. Yeager. Yeager came home on a single by McKeithan.

McKeithan was 3-for-4 with four RBI. Yeager was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jimmy Crooks was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Jeremy Rivas was 2-for-4. ladisernia had three RBI.
On the base paths, Church stole his 13th base of the season.
Peoria is 7-3 in the second half, 40-36 on the season, and is in first place in the Midwest League West.
Wednesday’s game: at South Bend, Dionys Rodriguez RHP (2-4, 4.09) vs. Cade Horton RHP (3-2, 3.15) 6:05 CT.
The Cardinals were edged by the Threshers in a one run game on Tuesday. Starter Brycen Mautz pitched five innings, gave up two runs on five hits, struck out six and walked three. Mautz took the hard-luck loss, his seventh of the season.
Augusto Calderon threw two scoreless innings of relief. Angel Cuenca allowed one run in the eighth.
The Beach Birds scored in the third inning on a solo home run by Chris Rotondo. Clearwater took the lead 2-1 in the fifth.
The Threshers made it 3-1 in the eighth. Palm Beach cut the lead to 3-2 in the ninth but the rally fell short. Jose Cordoba doubled and scored on a single by Lizandro Espinoza.
Cordoba and Joshua Baez were each 2-for-4. The offense was 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Reigning Florida State League Player of the Week Baez stole two bases. Leonardo Bernal was caught stealing. In the field, Espinoza made a throwing error and a fielding miscue. Mautz and Calderon each made pickoff errors. Cordoba had an outfield assist at second base. Mautz picked a runner off first base.
Palm Beach is 2-8 in the second half, 39-36 on the season, and is in last place in FSL East, 5.5 games back of Daytona.
Wednesday’s game: at Clearwater, TBA vs. TBA 5:30 CT.
FCL Cardinals 5 at FCL Marlins 9
The rookie level Cardinals lost to the Marlins by a 9-5 score on Tuesday. Rehabbing starter Inohan Paniagua pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed one hit, struck out two and walked two.
Miguel Martinez relieved Paniagua and surrendered one run in 1 1/3 innings. Antoni Cuello relinquished three runs in 1 2/3 innings. Diorys Guerrero allowed five runs in 2/3 of an inning. Victor Villanueva hurled 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Ludwin Jimenez tossed a scoreless eighth.
The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The Cardinals answered with three runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Romtres Cabrera drew a walk. Yancel Guerrero singled. Anyelo Encarnacion singled and Cabrera scored. Encarnacion stole second base. Guerrero came home on a sac fly by Adari Grant. Encarnacion crossed the plate on a sac fly by Maikel Hernandez.
The Marlins scored three runs in the fifth to go up 4-3. The Cardinals made it 5-4 in the top of the sixth. Guerrero singled and scored on a double by Encarnacion. Encarnacion scored on a ground out by Hernandez.
The Marlins scored five runs in the home half of the sixth to pull away, 9-5. Neither team added on in the final three innings.
Guerrero was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Encarnacion was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hernandez had two RBI.
On the base paths, Encarnacion and Guerrero each stole a base. Jose Suarez was caught stealing.
The Cardinals are 8-11 on the season and are in third place in the FCL East, 4.5 games back of the Marlins.
