The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-3 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis’ Quinn Mathews, pitched a quality start of six innings with two runs allowed on six hits, no walks and seven strikeouts. Other standouts include Leo Bernal, Alex Birge, Trevor Haskins, Héctor Cabrera and Michael Cordero.

Memphis 4, Charlotte 3 (11 innings)
The Triple-A Redbirds had an extra inning walk off win over the Knights on Friday at AutoZone Park.
Starter Quinn Mathews pitched six innings, gave up two runs on six hits and fanned seven. Most importantly, the lefty prospect walked no one.
Jared Shuster relieved Mathews and threw a scoreless seventh. Luis Gastelum hurled a scoreless eighth. Hancel Rincon pitched two scoreless innings. Austin Love yielded one unearned run in the 11th but still received the win.
Charlotte went ahead 2-0 in the first inning.
Memphis tied it in the home half. Thomas Saggese singled and Victor Scott was hit by a pitch. Saggese advanced to third on a fly out by Joshua Báez. Scott stole second. Nolan Gorman walked to load the bases. Leo Bernal walked and Saggese scored. Scott came home on a walk by Yohel Pozo.
The game remained tied through regulation. Neither team scored in the 10th.
In the top of the 11th, the Knights pushed a run across to take a 3-2 lead. In the home half, with Gorman starting the inning on second, Bernal hit a two-run home run to bring the win to Memphis on a walk off, 4-3.

The Redbirds scored four runs on five hits. Bernal drove in three of Memphis’ four runs.
Scott stole his fifth base. Jeremy Rivas had a missed catch error.
Memphis is 4-6 in the second half.

In a pitching duel that lived up to its advance billing, the Double-A Cardinals edged the Travelers by a 2-1 score in Springfield on Friday.
Starter Liam Doyle had one of his better outings of the year. The lefty pitched five innings, gave up one run on four hits, walked four and fanned four.
Edwin Nuñez relieved Doyle and threw three perfect innings with five strikeouts to earn the win. Andrew Schultz tossed a scoreless ninth for his first save.

Springfield tied the game in the fifth on a solo home run by Won-Bin Cho and took the lead 2-1 in the sixth on a solo shot by Ryan Campos. For the game, Campos was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The two home runs tagged MLB Pipeline’s no. 5 prospect nationally, Kade Anderson, with the loss, his first in nine Double-A decisions.
Springfield’s offense scored two runs on four hits. Cardinals hitters fanned 11 times, including nine by Anderson in six innings. Rainiel Rodriguez struck out in all four plate appearances.
Miguel Ugueto was caught stealing. Brody Moore made a fielding error. Campos picked a runner off second base.
Springfield is 8-2 in the second half.
Saturday’s game: vs. Arkansas, Jurrangelo Cijntje SHP (3-4, 5.66) vs. Ryan Sloan RHP (2-2, 4.11) 6:05 CT.
The High-A Chiefs were defeated by the Timber Rattlers by the score of 9-3 at Dozer Park on Friday.
Starter Tanner Franklin pitched four innings, gave up four runs, three earned, on four hits, walked three and struck out three. Franklin took the loss.
Gerardo Salas relieved Franklin and surrendered three runs in two innings. Jason Savacool yielded two unearned runs in the seventh. Nolan Sparks threw a scoreless eighth. Jawilme Ramírez tossed a scoreless ninth.
Wisconsin went up 2-0 in the first inning. They added four runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the top of the seventh to lead 9-0.
Peoria finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh with two runs. Ian Petrutz and Michael Dattalo singled. Anyelo Encarnación grounded into a force out, eliminating Petrutz at third. Dattalo scored on a throwing error. Luis Pino walked. Encarnación scored on a ground out by Christian Martin.
The Chiefs rallied for one more run in the ninth on a solo home run by Encarnación for the final score of 9-3.

The Peoria offense scored three runs on 11 hits. Martin was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Encarnación was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jack Gurevitch was 2-for-4.
Martin was picked off and caught stealing. Encarnación made a throwing error. Gurevitch and Martin each had a fielding miscue.
The Chiefs are 5-7 in the second half.
Saturday’s game: vs. Wisconsin, Leonel Sequera RHP (1-5, 8.17) vs. Braylon Owens RHP (3-0, 3.82) 6:05 CT.
In Lakeland on Friday, the Low-A Cardinals lost to the Flying Tigers by a 7-4 score.
Starter Payton Graham pitched three innings, gave up four runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out two.
Kaden Echeman relieved Graham and threw three scoreless innings on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Anthony Watts surrendered three runs in 1 1/3 innings and took the loss. Dylan Driessen tossed the final 2/3 of a scoreless inning.
Palm Beach went up 4-0 in the top of the second inning. Jonathan Mejía walked. Chase Heath hit a ground-rule double. Alex Birge singled to plate Mejía and Heath. Trevor Haskins followed with a two-run home run. However, that was the extent of the Beach Birds’ scoring.

Lakeland answered with a run in the home second, added three runs in the third to tie and three more in the eighth to win 7-4.
The Cardinals scored four runs on six hits. Birge and Haskins each had two RBI.
Brayden Smith had an outfield assist at home plate.
The Cardinals are 9-4 in the second half.

FCL Cardinals – Off day
The Florida Complex League Cardinals are 13-25 on the season and are in last place in the FCL East.

DSL Cardinals 6, DSL White Sox 10 (seven innings)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals fell to the White Sox by a 10-6 score on Friday.
Starter Efrén Álvarez pitched 1 2/3 innings, gave up six runs on four hits and walked two. Álvarez took the loss.
Kriscol Peralta relieved Álvarez and secured the final out of the second. Emilio Jiménez surrendered three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Brayan Amoroso hurled 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Domingo Mejía yielded one run in the seventh.
The White Sox went up 6-0 in the top of the second inning.
The Cardinals scored one run in the home second. Jesús Pérez walked. Héctor Cabrera tripled to plate Pérez.
The White Sox piled it on with two runs in the third and one in the fourth to increase the lead to 9-1.
The Cardinals answered with a second run in the home fourth. Michael Cordero doubled. Pérez singled. Cordero stole third base and scored on a sac fly by Diego Conseción.
The Cardinals put up two runs in the fifth to reduce the gap to 9-4. Luis Estrella was hit by a pitch. Cordero and Pérez walked. Cabrera doubled to plate Estrella and Cordero.
The White Sox added one more run in the top of the seventh for a 10-4 lead.
The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run by Michael Cordero to bring the score to 10-6. However, the comeback attempt ended there.
The Cardinals scored six runs on eight hits. Cabrera was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Cordero was 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Pérez was 2-for-2.
Cordero stole his first base. He also made a throwing error.
The Cardinals are 13-11 on the season and are in third place in the DSL Southeast.
