The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-3 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach 2B Jonathan Mejia, tripled and drove in two. Other standouts include Brycen Mautz, Chase Adkison, Jose Suarez and Rainiel Rodriguez.

Memphis Redbirds 1, Gwinnett Stripers 10
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds fell to the Gwinnett Stripers at AutoZone Park in Sunday’s series finale.
Max Rajcic made his second start for Memphis. The right-hander pitched four innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, no walks, and four strikeouts. Rajcic took the loss.

Chris Roycroft surrendered four runs in one inning in relief. Jack Ralston followed with 2 ⅔ shutout frames. Gordon Graceffo yielded four runs over the final 1 ⅓ innings.
Memphis scored in the first inning as Nathan Church crushed his sixth Triple-A home run, a solo shot.

The Stripers responded with two runs in the second to take the lead and added four runs each in the fifth and ninth innings each to stretch the lead to 10-1.
The Redbirds’ bats were quiet after the first and the offense did not move a baserunner into scoring position.
The Redbirds scored one run on three hits. Church’s solo home run was the team’s lone extra-base hit and RBI. JJ Wetherholt and Gavin Collins singled. Bryan Torres drew the team’s only walk. Memphis did not have multiple runners on base in any inning.
On the bases, Collins was caught trying to steal second.
On defense, catcher Jimmy Crooks was charged with an error on catcher’s interference. Michael Siani nailed a runner at second base from center field.
Memphis is 53-47 overall, and 12-15 in the second half after taking four of six from Gwinnett. They are tied for fourth place in the International League West Division. The Redbirds will travel to Harbor Park in Norfolk, Virginia, to begin a six-game series with the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s game: at Norfolk (BAL). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 PM CT.
Springfield Cardinals 2 at Tulsa Drillers 3
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals lost a close contest to the Drillers in Tulsa in the series finale on Sunday.
Brycen Mautz made his 17th start of the season. The left-hander threw four innings and allowed one run on three hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Zane Mills yielded a run across 1 ⅓ innings in relief. Austin Love surrendered one run over 1 ⅔ innings and was tagged with a blown save and the loss. Left-hander Michael Watson fired a scoreless eighth inning with a strikeout.
Springfield took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Chase Davis walked and swiped second base. Noah Mendlinger walked. Mendlinger and Davis advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Leonardo Bernal. Davis crossed home plate on a passed ball.
Tulsa tied the game at one in the home first.
Springfield immediately regained the lead at 2-1 with a run in the second. Brody Moore singled, then stole second and third base. R.J. Yeager brought Moore home on a sacrifice fly.
The Drillers plated two runs in the sixth to grab a 3-2 lead. The Cardinals were unable to respond in the loss.
The Cardinals scored two runs on three hits, singles by Davis, Bernal and Moore. Yeager tallied the lone Springfield RBI with a sacrifice fly.
On the basepaths, Moore swiped two bags to double his total to four steals with Springfield. Davis stole his seventh. Jeremy Rivas snagged his 16th. Joshua Baez took his 20th base.
Defensively, second baseman Rivas made a throwing error. Pitcher Watson picked a runner off first base.
Springfield is 60-36 on the season and 17-10 in the second half after dropping four of six to Tulsa. Their lead in the Texas League North Division is down to one game. The Cardinals will head home to Hammons Field for a six-game set with the Arkansas Travelers, starting Tuesday.

Peoria Chiefs 6, West Michigan Whitecaps 7
The High-A Peoria Chiefs lost a close series finale at Dozer Park to the West Michigan Whitecaps on Sunday.
Darlin Saladin started for the Chiefs. The right-hander pitched 2 ⅔ innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Angel Gonzalez recorded the final out of the third inning via strikeout. In his Peoria debut, Domenic Picone surrendered two runs across 2 ⅔ innings. Tanner Jacobson yielded two runs over 1 ⅓ innings and took the loss. Jawilme Ramirez and Randel Clemente combined for a scoreless eighth and ninth inning.
West Michigan held a 3-0 lead after the top of the third inning.
Peoria scored a run in the home third. Anyelo Encarnacion legged out an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. Ryan Campos singled to score Encarnacion.

The Whitecaps extended the lead to 5-1 with a two-run fourth.
The Chiefs responded with a four-run sixth to tie. Zach Levenson singled and Josh Kross walked. Chase Adkison lined a single to score Levenson. Tre Richardson followed with a single to plate Kross.

Adkison touched home plate on a wild pitch before Michael Curialle reached on a fielder’s choice, with Richardson home as the tying run.

The Whitecaps added two runs in the top of the seventh recapture the lead.
The Chiefs moved within a run in the home seventh. Zach Levenson singled and Josh Kross followed with a walk. Adkison grounded into a force, with Kross out at second base. Levenson scored on a wild pitch to inch the Chiefs closer at 7-6, but that was the end of the scoring.
The Chiefs scored six runs on 10 hits. Adkison was 2-for-4, including a double, a run scored, and one RBI. Richardson singled, scored a run, and drove in a run. Curialle singled and drove in a run. Campos hit a single and tallied an RBI. Levenson went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Peoria left eight runners on base.
The Chiefs did not record a stolen base.
On defense, shortstop Anyelo Encarnacion and second baseman Richardson each committed a fielding error.
Peoria is 39-56 overall, and 13-17 in the second half. They reside in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division, 4.5 games back of first place. The Chiefs will travel to ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit, Wisconsin, for a six-game series with the Beloit Sky Carp, starting Tuesday.

Palm Beach Cardinals 9 at Daytona Tortugas 5
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals bested the Tortugas in Daytona in Sunday’s series finale.
Ian Bedell started for Palm Beach in a rehab assignment, as he works to rejoin the Memphis Redbirds. The right-hander pitched three shutout innings on no hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.
Nolan Sparks allowed four runs across 1 ⅔ innings in relief. Hunter Kublick followed with two strikeouts across two scoreless innings to pick up his second win of the season. Aaron Holiday fanned four across two shutout frames. Christian Worley allowed a run in the ninth but held on to finish the game.
The Cardinals scored in the second inning. Deniel Ortiz was hit by a pitch and advanced to third base on a pickoff error. Ortiz crossed home plate on a Luis Pino groundout to put Palm Beach in front.
Palm Beach doubled their lead in the fourth. Rainiel Rodriguez singled and moved to third base on a Pino groundout. Jose Suarez hit a sharp single to score Rodriguez for a 2-0 Cardinals lead.
Daytona plated four runs in the fifth to move ahead 4-2.
Palm Beach regained the lead with a four-run sixth. Rodriguez singled and Ortiz walked before they executed a double steal. Jose Suarez drew a walk, with Rodriguez home on a wild pitch on ball four. Yordalin Pena took ball four to reload the bases. Sammy Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to score Ortiz. Pena and Suarez pulled off Palm Beach’s second double steal of the inning. Jonathan Mejia followed with a triple to bring home Suarez and Pena and give the Cardinals a 6-4 lead.
Palm Beach added three insurance runs in the ninth. Rodriguez was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a Pino single. Suarez lined a single to score Rodriguez. Pena reached on a throwing error, with Pino and Suarez coming home to stretch the lead to 9-4.
Palm Beach held off a late Daytona rally in the victory.
The Cardinals scored nine runs on 10 hits. Mejia was 2-for-4, including a triple and two RBI. Suarez was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI. Pino walked, singled, scored a run, and drove in a run. Hernandez drove in a run. Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
On the bases, Rodriguez swiped his first base with Palm Beach, the third of his career. Ortiz stole two bags to increase his season total to 31. Suarez snagged his 13th base. Pena took his 14th. Christian Martin swiped his 16th and was picked off first base.
On defense, second baseman Mejia committed a fielding error. Third baseman Ortiz made a throwing error.
Palm Beach is 47-46 overall, and 15-13 in the second half. They reside in second place in the Florida State League East Division, 4.5 games back of first place. The Cardinals are off Monday and will play three more games in Daytona, starting Tuesday.

DSL Cardinals (off-day)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals were off Sunday, as they prepare for a home contest with the DSL Angels on Monday.
The Cardinals enter the week with a 7-6 win in seven innings over the DSL Tigers 2 on Saturday.
The DSL Cardinals are 20-19 on the season and reside in third place in the DSL Southeast Division, four games back of first place.
Monday’s game: vs. DSL Angels. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 AM CT.
