The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-3 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach CF Chase Davis, was 2-for-5 with four RBI. Other standouts include Nick Dunn, Ivan Herrera, Sammy Hernandez and Ross Friedrick.

The Triple-A Redbirds were edged by the Cubs by a 4-3 score at AutoZone Park on Friday. Starter Michael McGreevy pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up three runs on four hits, struck out six and walked two.
Connor Thomas relieved McGreevy and threw a scoreless inning but allowed two runners inherited from McGreevy to score. Jacob Bosiokovic surrendered one run in the eighth and took the loss. Ryan Loutos tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Cubs went up 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Memphis tied the score in the home half. Iván Herrera tripled and came home on a single by Nick Dunn.
In the top of the sixth, Iowa took a 3-1 lead. The Redbirds responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to re-tie the game. Herrera doubled and stole third base. Dunn plated Herrera on a single. Jared Young singled. José Fermín drew a walk. Dunn came home on a walk by Victor Scott II.
The Cubs took the final lead 4-3 in the eighth.
Memphis scored three runs on nine hits. Dunn was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Herrera was 2-for-5 with a double and triple and two runs scored. Young was 2-for-4.
On the bases, Fermín stole his 11th base of the season. Herrera swiped his third bag. Young stole his sixth base.
On defense, Young made a fielding error. Herrera had a passed ball.
Memphis is 47-47 on the season, 9-10 in the second half.
Saturday’s game: vs. Iowa, RHP Ian Bedell (2-3, 4.26) vs. Brandon Birdsell RHP (0-1, 10.38) 6:35 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals fell to the Sod Poodles in a 7-1 road loss on Friday. Starter Quinn Mathews had trouble in the even innings, allowing two runs each in the second, fourth and sixth. The lefty went 5 2/3 innings, gave up six runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked two. Mathews took the loss.
Benito Garcia relieved Mathews and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Leonardo Taveras surrendered one run in the eighth.
The Cardinals scored their only run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by R.J. Yeager. The Cardinals had just four hits for the evening. No Cardinal had multiples.
On defense, Mike Antico had an outfield assist at second base.
Springfield is 49-39 on the season and 12-7 in the second half.
Saturday’s game: at Amarillo, Alex Cornwell LHP (4-2, 6.00) vs. Billy Corcoran RHP (5-3, 3.74) 7:05 CT.
The High-A Chiefs lost to the Sky Carp by a 7-3 score at Dozer Park on Friday. Starter Brycen Mautz pitched four innings, gave up six runs, four earned, on six hits, struck out one and walked two. Mautz took the loss, his 11th.
Beloit went up 4-0 in the top of the third inning. Peoria answered in the home half of the third to cut the lead to 4-3. Michael Curialle was hit by a pitch. William Sullivan singled. Alex Iadisernia plated Curialle and Sullivan with a double. Iadisernia came home on a single by Brody Moore.
The Sky Carp increased their lead to 6-2 in the fourth and added a final run in the seventh for the 7-3 win.
Peoria scored three runs on six hits. Moore was 2-for-4. Iadisernia had two RBI.
On defense, Leonardo Bernal and Won-Bin Cho each made a throwing error. Curialle and Johnfrank Salazar each had a fielding miscue. Iadisernia had an outfield assist at home plate.
Peoria is 38-49 on the season, 12-10 in the second half.
Saturday’s game: vs. Beloit, Inohan Paniagua RHP (7-5, 3.00) vs. Emmett Olson LHP (4-3, 3.21) 7:05 CT.
The Low-A Cardinals defeated the Tortugas by a 9-5 score in Daytona on Friday. Starter Gerardo Salas pitched four innings, gave up one unearned run on three hits, struck out four and walked three.
Benjamin Arias relieved Salas and surrendered four runs in two innings. Thanks to the offense, Arias still received the win. Augusto Calderon threw two scoreless innings. Henry Gomez tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Beach Birds took the immediate lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Chase Davis. A two-run home run by Sammy Hernandez in the second increased the lead to 4-0.
In the third, Daytona cut the lead to 4-1. Palm Beach responded with one run in the fourth to widen the lead to 5-1. Ross Friedrick doubled and later scored on a single by Hernandez.
The Tortugas tied the game with four runs in the fifth. The Cardinals quickly regained the lead, with two runs in the sixth to lead 7-5. Friedrick drew a walk. Trey Paige walked. Hernandez walked. Davis plated Friedrick and Paige on a single.
Palm Beach created some breathing room in the seventh on a two-run home run by Friedrick for the 9-5 final score.
The offense scored nine runs on 12 hits. Davis was 2-for-5 with four RBI. Hernandez was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Friedrick was 2-for-2 with two RBI and four runs scored. Jose Suarez was 2-for-5. Anyelo Encarnacion was 2-for-5.
On the bases, Suarez was caught stealing. On defense, Paige and Davis each made a throwing error. Jose Cordoba had an outfield assist at home plate.
Palm Beach is 51-36 on the season, 14-7 in the second half.
