Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 2, 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 4-2 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis CF Michael Siani, hit a home run and a triple for three RBI and three runs scored. Other standouts include Michael McGreevy, Bryan Torres, Chase Davis, Ian Petrutz and Cade Winquest.

Memphis 11 at Nashville 2

The Triple-A Redbirds walloped the Sounds in an 11-2 road blowout on Tuesday.

Starter Michael McGreevy pitched six scoreless innings, allowed two hits, and fanned five to earn his eighth win.

Roddery Muñoz relieved McGreevy and threw a scoreless seventh. Ryan Fernandez hurled a scoreless eighth. In his Triple-A debut, Jack Ralston surrendered two runs in the ninth.

Memphis took the lead in the second inning on a two-run home run by Bryan Torres.

They added a run in the third on a solo home run by Michael Siani.

The Redbirds posted five runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 8-0. Torres doubled. Brody Moore walked. Mike Antico singled and Torres scored. Siani plated Moore and Antico on a triple. Siani scored on a single by Nathan Church. Luken Baker walked. Jimmy Crooks singled. Church came home on a sac fly Matt Koperniak.

Memphis increased the lead to 9-0 in the sixth. Antico doubled. Siani reached on a fielder’s choice with Antico out at third. Church singled. Baker walked. Crooks grounded into a force out and Siani came home.

In the eighth, the Redbirds widened the lead to 11-0. Baker hit a solo home run. Crooks singled. Gavin Collins and Torres walked. Moore drew another free pass and Crooks scored.

Nashville avoided the shutout with two runs in the ninth.

The offense scored 11 runs on 12 hits. Siani was 2-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored. Torres was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Church was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Crooks was 2-for-6 with an RBI. Antico was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

On defense, Moore and Collins committed fielding errors. Fernandez made an error on a pickoff.

Memphis is 44-36 overall, 3-4 in the second half, and tied with Gwinnett, Omaha, and Toledo for second place in the International League West, one game back of a four-way tie for first place between Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, and St. Paul.

Wednesday’s game: at Nashville, Curtis Taylor RHP (4-2, 3.12) vs. Bruce Zimmerman LHP (5-4, 5.01) 6:35 CT.

Springfield 4, NW Arkansas 3 (10 innings)

The Double-A Cardinals edged the Naturals in an extra inning thriller at Hammons Field on Tuesday.

Starter Brycen Mautz pitched five innings, gave up one run on three hits, fanned eight and walked two.

Ricardo Velez relieved Mautz and surrendered two unearned runs in two innings. Nathanael Heredia threw a scoreless eighth. Nick Raquet tossed the final two scoreless innings to earn the win.

NW Arkansas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Springfield tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by R.J. Yeager.

The Cardinals took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on a two-run home run by Chase Davis. The Naturals tied the game in the sixth.

Springfield scored in the home half of the 10th to win the game in a 4-3 walk off 4-3. Yeager was the ghost runner to start the inning and JJ Wetherholt singled to bring him home.

The Cardinals scored four runs on seven hits. Davis was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Yeager scored two runs.

Joshua Baez stole two bases but was also picked off and caught stealing. Dakota Harris swiped his 11th bag. Yeager stole his fourth base.

Shortstop Wetherholt made a fielding error.

Springfield is 46-30 overall, 3-4 in the second half and in last place in the Texas League North, but just two games back of NW Arkansas and Wichita (tied).

Wednesday’s game: vs. NW Arkansas, Ixan Henderson LHP (3-4, 2.75) vs. Ryan Ramsey LHP (4-2, 4.55) 7:05 CT.

Peoria 5, South Bend 1

The High-A Chiefs defeated the Cubs by a 5-1 score at Dozer Park on Tuesday.

Starter Cade Winquest pitched six innings, gave up one run on one hit and fanned five to earn his second win.

D.J. Carpenter, Randel Clemente (in his Peoria debut) and Michael Watson tossed a scoreless inning each to preserve the lead.

South Bend took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Peoria scored two runs in the home half first to lead 2-1. Jon Jon Gazdar doubled. Travis Honeyman and Josh Kross walked. Ian Petrutz singled to score Gazdar and Honeyman.

The Chiefs added a run in the fourth to increase the lead to 3-1. Petrutz and Brayden Jobert singled. Gazdar plated Petrutz on a single.

Peoria widened the lead to 5-1 in the sixth. Miguel Villarroel walked. Michael Curialle was hit by a pitch. Gazdar walked. Honeyman drove in Villarroel and Curialle on a single.

The Chiefs scored five runs on seven hits. Petrutz was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Gazdar was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Honeyman had two RBI.

On the bases, Jobert was caught stealing.                                                   

Peoria is 31-44 overall, 3-4 in the second half, and is tied with the Cubs for third place in the Midwest League West, 1.5 games back of Quad Cities.

Wednesday’s game: vs. South Bend, Jason Savacool RHP (2-0, 2.35) vs. TBD (SB) 6:35 CT.

Palm Beach 7, Jupiter 2

Dodging the rain, after a delayed start, the Low-A Cardinals beat the Hammerheads by a 7-2 score at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday.

Starter Braden Davis pitched three scoreless no hit innings, fanned five but also walked five.

In his Cardinals system debut, Domenic Picone relieved Davis and threw four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Christian Worley surrendered two runs in the final two innings.

The Beach Birds took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Jose Cordoba walked. Sammy Hernandez doubled. Anyelo Encarnacion singled to score Cordoba. Christian Martin walked. Jonathan Mejia grounded into a double play and Hernandez scored.

Palm Beach added two runs in the fourth to lead 4-0. Deniel Ortiz walked and stole second base. Cordoba plated Ortiz on a double. Cordoba came home on a single by Hernandez.

The Cardinals added three runs in the fifth to widen the lead to 7-0. Martin doubled. Raniel Rodriguez singled to drive in Martin. Reigning Florida State League Player of the Week Ortiz followed with a two-run home run.

Jupiter avoided the shutout in the ninth with two runs.

The Cardinals scored seven runs on 10 hits. Cordoba was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ortiz homered and walked with two RBI and two runs scored.

Ortiz also stole his 21st base of the season. Luis Pino and Yordalin Pena were caught stealing.

On defense, Davis picked a runner off second base. Rodriguez had a passed ball.

Palm Beach is 35-40 overall, 3-7 in the second half, and is in last place in the FSL East, four games back of St. Lucie.

Wednesday’s game: vs. Jupiter, RHP Jacob Odle (0-2, 8.62) vs. TBD 5:30 CT.

FCL Cardinals 0, FCL Mets 5 (seven innings)

The rookie Cardinals were blanked by the Mets by a 5-0 score on Tuesday. Starter Keiverson Ramirez pitched three innings, gave up one run on one hit, struck out one and walked one. Ramirez took the loss.

Alan Reyes relieved Ramirez and surrendered three runs, one earned, in two innings. Edwin Nuñez yielded one unearned run in the final two innings.

The Mets took the lead 1-0 in the second inning. They added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the seventh.

Bracewell Taveras

The Cardinals scattered five hits. Bracewell Taveras was 2-for-3. Taveras and Yancel Guerrero doubled for the only extra base hits. The offense was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

On the bases, Taveras stole his sixth base of the season. Daniel Rojas swiped his seventh bag.  Facundo Velasquez was caught stealing.

On defense, Yairo Padilla made two throwing errors.

The Cardinals are 17-22 on the season and are in fourth place in the Florida Complex League East, 7.5 games back of the FCL Astros.

Wednesday’s game: at FCL Marlins, TBD vs. TBD 11:00 am CT.

DSL Cardinals 8 at DSL Marlins 9

The Dominican Cardinals blew a five-run lead and fell to the Marlins by a 9-8 score on Tuesday. Starter Gabriel Chinchilla pitched four innings, gave up two runs on three hits, fanned four and walked three.

Branneli Franco relieved Chinchilla and threw a scoreless fifth. Ricardo Fernandez surrendered two runs in 2 1/3 innings. Jesus Garcia yielded five runs in the final 1 1/3 innings and took the loss.

The Marlins went up 1-0 in the first inning and added a run in the third.

In the sixth, a solo home run by Cardinals cleanup hitter Edward Guribe cut the lead to 2-1.

The Cardinals put up six runs in the seventh inning to take a seemingly commanding 7-2 lead. Brayan Amoroso and Juan Pablo Cabrera were hit by pitches. Michael Cordero singled. Sebastian Dos Santos doubled to score Amoroso and Cabrera. Miguel Hernandez plated Cordero and Dos Santos on a single. Juan Rujano walked. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Hernandez scored on a sac fly by Guribe. Rujano came home on a wild pitch.

The Marlins responded with two runs in the eighth to shrink the lead to 7-4. In the top of the ninth, the Cardinals scored a run to increase the lead to 8-4. Hernandez walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a wild pitch. Guribe drove in Hernandez on a sac fly.

The Marlins rallied for five runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off the win, 9-8.

The Cardinals scored eight runs on five hits. Dos Santos was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Hernandez had two RBI and two runs scored. Guribe drove in three.

On the bases, Hernandez was caught stealing.

The DSL Cardinals are 13-9 on the season. With the win, the Marlins have tied the Cards for first place in the Southeast Division.
