The Dominican Cardinals edged their Angels counterparts by a 5-4 score on Tuesday. Starter Keiverson Ramirez pitched five scoreless innings, allowed two hits and struck out four to earn his third win of the season.
Alan Reyes surrendered four runs, three earned, in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Guanchi Martinez tossed the final 1 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his second save.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Rainiel Rodriguez hit a solo home run. Christian Saez doubled. Brayan Amoroso plated Saez on a single.
The Cardinals added two runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 4-0. Yairo Padilla as hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Facundo Velasquez drew a walk. Padilla and Velasquez advanced on a passed ball. Padilla stole home. Velasquez stole second base. Felix Taveras drove Velasquez in on a single.
The Angels scored two runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2. The Cardinals put up one run in the seventh to widen the lead to 5-2 on a second solo home run by Rodriguez.
The Angels added two runs in the eighth to shrink the final score to 5-4.
The Cardinals scored five runs on 10 hits. Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Taveras was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
On the bases, Padilla stole his 20th base of the season. Velasquez swiped his third bag. On defense, Cristopher Lebron made a fielding error.
The Cardinals are 15-14 on the season.
