Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 12, 2023

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-0 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DSL Cardinals SS Arfeni Batista, was 3-for-5 including two home runs with five RBI and three runs scored in the Cardinals win.

Memphis – Off day

The Memphis Redbirds (43-44) are 13 games out of first place in the International League West.

Springfield – Off day

In the Texas League North, the Springfield Cardinals (5-7) are tied for third place.

Peoria – Off day

The Peoria Chiefs (10-5) sit in first place in the Midwest League West by one game.

Palm Beach – Off day

The Palm Beach Cardinals (3-12) are in last place by five games in the Florida State League East.

FCL Cardinals – Off day

In the Florida Complex League East, the Florida Complex League Cardinals (9-15) are in last place and six games out of first.

DSL Cardinals 8, DSL Twins 1

The Cardinals defeated the Twins in an 8-1 contest on Tuesday. Starter Yadiel Batista pitched three scoreless innings, allowed two hits and struck out four.

Brailyn Paulino relieved Batista and threw two scoreless innings of relief to earn his first win of the season. Ronny Oliver surrendered one run in two innings pitched. Jovi Galvez hurled a scoreless eighth. Justin Hernandez tossed a scoreless ninth.

The Cardinals scored one run in the first inning. Arfeni Batista singled. Fernando Roquez singled. Batista advanced to third and scored on two errors.

The Cardinals added four runs in the second on a grand slam by Batista. Batista added a solo home run in the fourth, and a Bracewell Taveras RBI single increased the lead to 7-0.

In the sixth, Yordalin Pena was hit by a pitch and later scored on a wild pitch to give the Cardinals an 8-0 lead.

The Twins scored their only run in the seventh.

Batista was 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored. Taveras was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Cardinals are 9-18 on the season and are in seventh place in the DSL South, 11.5 games back of the Phillies White.

Wednesday’s game:  Off.
