The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-1 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis RF Jordan Walker, was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Other standouts include César Prieto, Matt Lloyd and Chris Rotondo.
Results for games played Wednesday, July 10.
The Triple-A Redbirds defeated the Tides by a 7-2 score at AutoZone Park on Wednesday. Starter Michael McGreevy pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up two runs on six hits, struck out five and walked two to earn his fifth win of the season.
Victor Santos relieved McGreevy and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Nick Robertson hurled a scoreless eighth. Andre Granillo tossed a scoreless ninth.
Memphis took a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning. César Prieto, Thomas Saggese and José Fermín singled, with the latter scoring Prieto. Fermín was thrown out at first base. Jared Young drove in Saggese on a double. Moisés Gómez drew a walk. Victor Scott II walked. Jordan Walker plated Gómez and Scott on a single.

Norfolk responded with two runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2. The Redbirds added a run in the seventh. Young doubled and later scored on a double by Walker.
Memphis put up two runs in the eighth to widen the lead to 7-2. Luken Baker singled. Prieto tripled to score Baker. Prieto crossed the plate on a sac fly by Fermín.
Memphis scored seven runs on eight hits. Walker was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Prieto was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Young was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Fermín had two Rbi.
On the bases, Scott stole his 25th base of the season. Walker stole his fourth base.
Memphis is 46-43 on the season, 8-6 in the second half.
Thursday’s game: vs. Norfolk, LH Connor Thomas (3-3, 3.46) vs. Justin Armbruester RHP (1-6, 8.23) 7:05 CT
The Double-A Cardinals fell to the Wind Surge by a 7-3 score at Hammons Field on Wednesday. Starter Alex Cornwell pitched six innings, gave up two runs on six hits, struck out seven and walked three.
Leonardo Taveras relieved Cornwell and surrendered four runs, three earned, in 1 2/3 innings. Taveras took the loss. Jack Ralston yielded one run in the final 1 1/3 innings.
Wichita went up 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Springfield scored one run in the home half of the fourth on a solo home run by Matt Lloyd to cut the lead in half.

The Cardinals tied the game in the sixth. Jeremy Rivas singled. Bryan Torres drew a walk. Mike Antico advanced the runners on sac bunt. Rivas scored on a ground out by Lloyd.
The Wind Surge regained the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh. Springfield answered with one run in the home seventh to shrink the lead to 4-3. Nathan Church and Noah Mendlinger singled as Church advanced to third. Aaron McKeithan plated Church on a sac fly.
Wichita scored two runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth to win the game 7-3.
The Cardinals offense scored three runs on nine hits. Lloyd was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Church was 2-for-4. Rivas was 2-for-3.
On the bases, Rivas stole his 22nd base of the season. Rivas was also caught stealing.
On defense, Jacob Buchberger was charged with interference.
Springfield is 45-38 on the season, 8-6 in the second half.
Thursday’s game: vs. Wichita, Max Rajcic RHP (7-7, 4.89) vs. Travis Adams RHP (4-6, 4.80) 7:05 CT.
The High-A Chiefs beat the River Bandits by the score of 4-2 on Wednesday. Starter Hancel Rincon pitched five innings, gave up two runs on three hits, struck out eight and walked three to earn his sixth win of the season.
Tanner Jacobson relieved Rincon and threw three scoreless innings of relief. Dionys Rodriguez tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his second save.
Peoria took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Alex Iadisernia tripled. Brody Moore plated Iadisernia on a single. Moore was caught stealing. Leonardo Bernal reached on a third strike passed ball. Chris Rotondo followed with a two-run home run.
Quad Cities answered with two runs in the home half of the first to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Chiefs made it 4-2 in the fifth. Tre Richardson doubled. Joshua Baez walked. Richardson and Baez executed a double steal. Richardson scored on a sac fly by Iadisernia.
Peoria scored four runs on eight hits. Rotondo was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Won-Bin Cho was 2-for-4.
On the bases, Richardson stole his third base of the season. Baez swiped his 18th bag. Moore, Cho and Baez were all caught stealing.
Peoria is 36-46 on the season, 10-7 in the second half.
Thursday’s game: at Quad Cities, Brycen Mautz LHP (0-10, 6.34) vs. Hunter Patteson LHP (0-2, 9.26) 6:30 CT.
The Low-A Cardinals blanked the Threshers in a 2-0 contest in the first game of a twin bill at Roger Dean on Wednesday. Before Tuesday’s contest was suspended, starter Jason Savacool pitched three scoreless innings, allowed one hit, struck out one and walked two.
When the game resumed on Wednesday, Benjamin Arias threw four scoreless innings of relief to earn his fifth win. Henry Gomez tossed the final two scoreless innings for his sixth save.
The Beach Birds took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Anyelo Encarnacion led off with a double. Ross Friedrick plated Encarnacion on a single.
Palm Beach added a run in the third to increase the lead to 2-0. Trey Paige drew a walk. Chase Davis singled. Jose Suarez reached on a fielder’s choice. Paige was thrown out at home. Kade Kretzschmar singled to plate Davis.
The Cardinals scored two runs on eight hits. Davis was 2-for-4. Paige was 2-for-3.
On the bases, Brayden Jobert stole his 10th base of the season. On defense, Sammy Hernandez made a throwing error.
Palm Beach, Clearwater (suspended)
The second game of the doubleheader was suspended in the fifth inning due to inclement weather with Palm Beach up 4-3. The game will be resumed on July 11 as the first game of a doubleheader.
