The St. Louis Cardinals system went 0-1 on Monday as the DSL club had the lone game scheduled. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is right fielder Hancel Almonte, who singled, walked twice and scored twice. Another standout is Arfeni Batista.

DSL Cardinals 4 at DSL Giants Orange 5
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (8-18) were edged by the Giants Orange (14-11) at Academia De Béisbol Felipe Alou on Monday afternoon.
Starter Jefferson Moran pitched three innings and yielded three runs on six hits and one walk. The right-hander fanned four and took his third loss of the season. In relief, Stiveen Rojas surrendered two runs in two innings on three hits, a walk and four punchouts.
After the Giants scored two runs in the first inning, the Cardinals responded with two in the second. Fernando Roquez drove in a run via single. Luis Atocha tied the game with a sacrifice fly. The Giants scored one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Jose Suriel walked three and struck out one in 1 1/3 scoreless frames. Yordy Herrera tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings with a walk and one strikeout.
The Cardinals tried to rally in the sixth and seventh innings. Heriberto Caraballo plated one with a single in the sixth. Arfeni Batista blasted a solo home run in the seventh inning, his second of the season. The lineup could not get a man on base for the rest of the game.
Bracewell Taveras and Caraballo both recorded two hits. Hancel Almonte walked twice, singled and came across twice. The Cardinals had eight hits, five walks and went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The pitching hit five batters.
On the bases, Roquez was caught stealing for the first time. Behind the plate, Caraballo had a passed ball.
The Cardinals are 11.5 games out of first in the Dominican Summer League South.
