The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-2 on Friday as Palm Beach clinched their second first-place finish. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria SS Brody Moore, went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and record-tying five stolen bases. Other standouts include Pete Hansen, Ian Petrutz, Jose Suarez, and Gerardo Salas.

The Triple-A Redbirds lost to the Cubs by a 6-2 score on Friday. Quinn Mathews made his debut start for Memphis. The left-hander went four innings, gave up three runs on five hits, fanned seven and walked three. Mathews took the loss.

Victor Santos, Wilking Rodriguez and Connor Thomas each hurled a scoreless inning of relief, but Jacob Bosiokovic surrendered three runs in the eighth and the offense could not close the larger gap.
The Cubs got on the board first with one run in the second inning. They added two runs in the fourth and three runs in the eighth to lead 6-0.
Memphis was held scoreless until the final inning when the Redbirds put up two runs to avoid being shut out. Nick Dunn singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Chandler Redmond singled, advancing Dunn to third. Wade Stauss plated both runners with a double.

Memphis scored two runs on 10 hits. César Prieto and Redmond were both 2-for-4. Dunn was 2-for-3. Stauss had two RBI.
The offense was 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.
Memphis is 63-67 on the season, 25-30 in the second half. They are tied for seventh place in the International League West.

The Double-A Cardinals fell to the Wind Surge by the score of 6-1 on Friday. In a spot start, Wilfredo Pereira took the mound for Springfield. The right-hander pitched five innings, gave up three runs on six hits, fanned five and walked one. Pereira took the loss.
Edwin Nuñez relieved Pereira and surrendered three runs in two innings. Nathanael Heredia tossed a scoreless eighth.
The Cardinals scored one run in the first inning to lead. St. Louis rehabber Michael Siani drew a walk. R.J. Yeager singled. Matt Lloyd plated Siani on a single.

Springfield was held to that one run for the remainder of the game.
Wichita tied the score in the fourth, then added two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 6-1 lead.
The Cardinals scored one run on three singles, from Yeager, Lloyd, and Nathan Church. The offense was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Siani stole a base and was caught stealing. He drew three passes for a three-game slash line of .125/.364/.125/.489 with Springfield.
Springfield is 72-52 on the season, 35-20 in the second half. They remain in first place in the Texas League North.
Saturday’s game: at Wichita, Max Rajcic RHP (10-9, 4.38) vs. Cory Lewis RHP (1-4, 2.96) 6:05 CT.
The High-A Chiefs edged the Sky Carp in a 4-3 road win on Friday.
Pete Hansen was on the bump for Peoria. The left hander pitched five innings, gave up two runs on six hits, fanned seven and walked two.
Benjamin Arias relieved Hansen and surrendered one run in 1 2/3 innings. Dionys Rodriguez hurled a scoreless inning and received the win. Osvaldo Berrios tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his eighth save.
Peoria took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Brody Moore led off with a single and later scored on a double by Tre Richardson.
The Chiefs added a run in the top of the third to lead 2-0. Moore singled and stole second base. Darlin Moquete received a free pass. Moore stole third base and then stole home.
Beloit scored a run in the home third to cut the lead to 2-1. They tied the game in the sixth and took a 3-2 lead in the seventh.
Peoria came back in the eighth to plate two runs and held on to win the game 4-3. Won-Bin Cho and Chase Adkison walked. Alex Iadisernia grounded into a double play and Cho advanced to third. Miguel Villarroel doubled to score Cho. Brayden Jobert drove in Villarroel on a single.
Peoria scored four runs on 11 hits. Moore was 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Richardson was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Villarroel was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Moore stole five bases, including home, tying the franchise record. Darlin Moquete swiped his fourth bag. Richardson stole his 12th base.
Peoria is 56-67 on the season, 30-28 in the second half. The Chiefs are in third place in the Midwest League West, 2.5 games back of Wisconsin. Wins are crucial as the Chiefs are two games behind Quad Cities for a playoff berth with just eight games remaining.

Behind solid pitching, the Class-A Cardinals defeated the Tortugas by a 4-1 score on Friday. In the process, the Beach Birds clinched the second half division title to go with their first-place finish in the first half, too!
Gerardo Salas started for Palm Beach. The right-hander pitched five innings, gave up one run on four hits, fanned six and walked one to earn his eighth win.
Angel Cuenca relieved Salas and threw three scoreless innings on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Luis Gastelum tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his seventh save.
The Beach Birds went up 1-0 in the first inning. Ian Petrutz singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jose Suarez drove in Petrutz with a single.
Daytona tied the game in the top of the fifth. Palm Beach answered in the home fifth with a solo home run by Cade McGee to retake the lead, 2-1.

The Cardinals added two runs in the eighth to increase the lead to 4-1. Bryce Madron singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Petrutz drew a walk. J.J. Wetherholt plated Madron on a single. Petrutz came home on a ground out by Suarez.
Palm Beach scored four runs on six hits. Petrutz was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Suarez had two RBI.
Petrutz stole his fourth base of the season. Salas picked a runner off first base.
Palm Beach is 77-46 on the season, 40-17 in the second half. They remain in first place by 9 ½ games in the FSL East.
