The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-0 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, RF Noah Mendlinger, was 4-for-5 including a two-run home run in Springfield’s win. Other standouts include Adam Kloffenstein, Matt Koperniak and Nick Dunn.
Results for games played on Wednesday, August 30.
The Memphis Redbirds beat the Stripers, 7-1, on Wednesday at AutoZone Park. Starter Adam Kloffenstein pitched five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked one to earn his second Triple-A win.
Grant Black relieved Kloffenstein and threw two scoreless innings. Dalton Roach surrendered one run in the eighth. James Naile tossed a scoreless ninth.
Memphis scored six of their seven runs in the second inning. Nick Dunn singled. Juniel Querecuto walked. Dunn and Querecuto came home on a double by Irving Lopez. Matt Koperniak plated Lopez on a single. César Prieto reached on an error. Koperniak scored on a wild pitch. Prieto crossed the plate on a single by Lars Nootbaar, who was in his first game rehabbing in Memphis. Dunn’s second single of the inning brought in Nootbaar.

In the top of the eighth, the Stripers scored their only run. The Redbirds added a seventh run in the home eighth. Irving Lopez walked and later was forced in by a Chase Pinder walk.
Koperniak and Dunn were each 3-for-5 with an RBI. Nootbaar was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lopez had two RBI.
On the base paths, Koperniak was caught stealing.
The Memphis Redbirds (24-29) are 7.5 games out of first place in the International League West.
Thursday’s games: vs. Gwinnett, RHP Sem Robberse (0-1, 8.40) vs. RHP Michael Soroka 6:45 CT.
Springfield 6 at NW Arkansas 5
The Springfield Cardinals topped the Naturals by one run on Wednesday. Starter Brandon Komar pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up three runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked one.
Nick Trogrlic-Iverson surrendered one run in 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win. Matt Svanson relinquished one run in the ninth for his second save.
NW Arkansas scored first in the second inning to lead 1-0. Springfield tied the game in the top of the sixth. Chandler Redmond doubled and later came home on a fielder’s choice by Jose Alvarez.
The Naturals answered with two runs in the home half of the sixth to lead 3-1. The Cardinals put up five runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead 6-3. Jacob Buchberger walked. Victor Scott II and Mike Antico singled. Thomas Saggese hit a bases-clearing triple. Noah Mendlinger followed with a two-run home run.

NW Arkansas added single runs in the seventh and ninth to bring them to within one at 6-5.
Mendlinger was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Scott II was 3-for-4. Saggese had three RBI while crossing over the 100 mark for the season.
On the base paths, Scott II stole his 33rd base for Springfield and 83rd overall in 2023.
In the Texas League North, the Springfield Cardinals (27-26) are in second place, three games out of first.
Thursday’s game: at NW Arkansas, Tink Hence RHP (2-3, 5.70) vs. Noah Cameron LHP (2-9, 6.02) 7:05 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs edged the River Bandits in a one run win in Davenport on Wednesday. Starter Ian Bedell pitched four scoreless innings, allowed two hits, struck out three and walked one.
Edgar Manzo relieved Bedell and surrendered two runs in 1/3 of an innings. Joseph King tossed the final 4 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.
Peoria took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. R.J. Yeager singled and later scored on a Chris Rotondo hit by pitch.
The Chiefs increased the lead to 2-0 in the second. Jeremy Rivas walked and was driven in by a Yeager single. Peoria added their third and final run in the fourth on a solo home run by Thomas Francisco.
Quad Cities scored their two runs in the fifth.
Francisco was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Yeager was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
On the base paths, Rivas stole his 20th base of the season. Brody Moore swiped his sixth bag. Yeager was caught stealing.
The Peoria Chiefs (32-24) are in second place in the Midwest League West, five games back of first. Their Magic Number to reach the playoffs is six.
Thursday’s games: at Quad Cities, Zane Mills RHP (6-5, 5.07) vs. Ryan Ramsey LHP (0-1, 20.25) 6:30 CT.
Palm Beach at Bradenton (postponed)
This game was postponed for weather due to Hurricane Idalia. It is scheduled to be made up on Saturday, September 2.
The Palm Beach Cardinals (24-27) are in second place in the Florida State League East, 1.5 games out of first.
