The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-2 on Wednesday including two walkoffs. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Jose Cordoba, was 4-for-5 with two RBI in the FCL Cardinals win. Other standouts include Osvaldo Tovalin and Felix Taveras.

The Memphis Redbirds were edged by the Jumbo Shrimp in a one-run home loss on Wednesday. Fresh off the injured list, starter Connor Thomas pitched three scoreless innings, allowed two hits, struck out three and walked one.
Grant Black relieved Thomas and surrendered two runs in three innings. Black took the loss. Kyle Leahy relinquished one run in the final three innings.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when Jacksonville took a 2-0 lead. The Jumbo Shrimp added a third run in the top of the ninth.

Memphis finally rallied in the home half of the ninth but came up short with two runs scored. Luken Baker hit a solo home run, his 27th long ball of 2023. Matt Koperniak followed with a single. A walk to Juan Yepez and a single by Moises Gomez loaded the bases with no outs. Koperniak scored on a double play grounder by Nick Dunn. The game ended as Juniel Querecuto struck out.
Koperniak and Ivan Herrera were each 2-for-4.
Third baseman Querecuto made a fielding error.
The Memphis Redbirds (53-51) are four games out of first place in the International League West.
Thursday’s game: vs. Jacksonville, RHP Gordon Graceffo (3-2, 4.15) vs. LHP Ryan Weathers 7:05 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals topped the Naturals with a ninth inning rally on Wednesday at Hammons Field. Starter Connor Lunn pitched five innings, gave up three runs on five hits, struck out four and walked one.
Bryan Pope relieved Lunn and threw two scoreless innings. Roy Garcia tossed the final two scoreless innings and earned his second Double-A win.
NW Arkansas scored a run in the top of the first inning. The Cardinals quickly tied the game in the home half on a solo home run by newcomer Thomas Saggese.

The Naturals regained the lead in the second, then made it 3-1 in the fourth. Springfield cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth on a solo long ball by Irving Lopez.
In the ninth, the Cardinals rallied for two runs to win 4-3 in a walk-off. Pedro Pages drew a walk. Errol Robinson pinch ran. Noah Mendlinger doubled to score Robinson. Jose Alvarez pinch ran for Mendlinger. Arquimedes Gamboa plated Alvarez on a double to end it.

Gamboa was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Mendlinger was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Victor Scott II was 2-for-4.
On the base paths, Scott II stole two bases and reached 70 stolen bases for the season.

The Peoria Chiefs prevailed against Quad Cities on Wednesday with a ninth inning walk off rally, coming back from a 5-0 deficit. Starter Zane Mills pitched five innings, gave up three runs on eight hits and struck out seven.
Nathanael Heredia relieved Mills and threw two scoreless innings. Dionys Rodriguez surrendered two runs in the ninth but earned his third win of the season.
The River Bandits took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Quad Cities added two runs in the eighth to lead 5-0.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Chiefs rallied for six runs and the walk off win. The inning began with a Jeremy Rivas and Luis Rodriguez singling. Brody Moore was hit by a pitch. Alex ladisernia walked and Rivas came in. Darlin Moquete grounded into a force out as Rodriguez scored. Moore was out at third. R.J. Yeager was hit by a pitch. Osvaldo Tovalin plated ladisernia and Moquete on a single. Yeager came home on a double by Chris Rotondo. Nathan Church pinch ran for Tovalin. Church scored on a fielder’s choice with a throwing error.

Tovalin was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Rotondo was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Rivas was 2-for-5. Yeager was 2-for-4.
On the base paths, ladisernia was picked off and caught stealing. In the field, Moquete had an outfield assist at second base. Rotondo had an outfield assist at first base.
The Peoria Chiefs (17-15) are in second place in the Midwest League West, three games back of first place.

The Palm Beach Cardinals were soundly defeated by the Hammerheads by eight runs on Wednesday. Starter Pete Hansen pitched five innings, gave up two runs on four hits and struck out four. Hansen took the loss.
Tyler Bradt relieved Hansen and surrendered two runs in 2/3 of an innings. Wilmer Ortega threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Jason Savacool relinquished two runs in the eighth. John Lynch allowed three runs without recording an out. Angel Cuenca tossed a scoreless ninth.
Jupiter took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Beach Birds scored their lone run of the game in the fourth when Leonardo Bernal singled and crossed hom on a double by Kade Kretzschmar.
The Hammerheads scored two in the sixth, two in the eighth, and three in the ninth for the 9-1 win.
Palm Beach scored one run on four hits. No Cardinal had multiple hits. The offense was 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
On the base paths, Kretzschmar stole his second base of the season. In the field, Won-Bin Cho had an outfield assist at third base.
The Palm Beach Cardinals (13-17) are tied for second place in the Florida State League East.

FCL Cardinals 8 at FCL Astros 2
The Florida Complex League Cardinals beat the Astros in an 8-2 contest on Wednesday. Gerardo Salas pitched five innings, gave up one run on one hit, struck out four and walked two to earn his second win of the season.
Luis Gastelum threw two scoreless innings of relief. Antoni Cuello surrendered one unearned run in the eighth. Randel Clemente tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Astros took the lead with one run in the second inning. The Cardinals answered in the third with five runs. Jonathan Mejia walked. Jose Cordoba followed with a two-run home run. Felix Taveras walked and came home on a two run long ball by Sammy Hernandez. Luis Pino then thumped a solo home run.
The Cardinals added three more runs in the fourth. Maikel Hernandez was hit by a pitch. Cordoba singled. Hernandez and Cordoba were driven in on a double by Taveras. Taveras later scored on a wild pitch.
The Astros scored their second and final run in the eighth.
Cordoba was 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Taveras was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hernandez had two RBI.
On the base paths, Taveras stole his second base of the season. In the field, Mejia made two errors, one throwing and one fielding.
In the Florida Complex League East, the Cardinals (14-23) are in last, 9.5 games back of first.
