The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-2 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis DH Nolan Gorman, went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Other standouts include Bryan Torres, Alex Iadisernia, Tyler Bradt and Jose Cordoba.

The Triple-A Redbirds fell to the Cubs by a 4-2 score in Des Moines on Wednesday. Zach Thompson started for Memphis. The left-hander pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up four runs on six hits, struck out four and walked one. Thompson took the loss.
Victor Santos relieved Thompson and threw 2/3 of a scoreless inning. Wilking Rodriguez hurled a scoreless seventh. Ryan Loutos tossed a scoreless eighth.
Iowa went up 2-0 in the fourth inning and added two runs in the sixth to lead 4-0.
Memphis finally got on the board with two runs in the eighth to cut the lead in half. Jordan Walker singled and Nolan Gorman followed with a two-run home run.

The Redbirds scored two runs on seven hits with Gorman’s homer the only non-single. Gorman was 3-for-4 with two RBI. César Prieto was 2-for-4.
The offense was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Memphis is 62-65 on the season, 24-28 in the second half. They are tied for sixth place in the International League West.
Thursday’s game: at Iowa, RHP Michael McGreevy (6-8, 4.13) vs. Connor Noland RHP (4-1, 2.70) 6:38 CT.
The visiting Double-A Cardinals took a close win over the Wind Surge by a 2-1 score on Wednesday. Tink Hence took the start and pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up one run on three hits, fanned six and walked two. Hence threw 64 pitches, of which 39 were strikes.
Benito Garcia relieved Hence and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings for the win. Trent Baker and Jack Ralston each hurled a scoreless inning. Matt Svanson tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his 24th save.
Springfield took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Bryan Torres and Michael Siani singled. Torres scored on a single by R.J. Yeager.
The Cardinals increased the lead to 2-0 in the second inning. Dakota Harris singled and scored on a double by Torres.

The Wind Surge plated their only run in the fourth inning on a solo home run served up by Hence.
The Cardinals scored two runs on eight hits. Torres was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Harris was 2-for-4. St. Louis rehabber Siani was 1-for-4.
Yeager stole his eighth base. Matt Lloyd swiped his 13th bag. Harris was caught stealing.
Springfield is 71-51 on the season, 34-19 in the second half. They remain in first place in the Texas League North
Thursday’s game: at Wichita, Alex Cornwell LHP (6-2, 5.14) vs. Jaylen Nowlin LHP (5-5, 4.96) 7:05 CT.
The High-A Chiefs defeated the Sky Carp by the score of 7-3 in Beloit on Wednesday. Inohan Paniagua was on the bump for Peoria. The right-hander pitched five innings, gave up three runs on five hits, fanned six and walked one.
Tyler Bradt relieved Paniagua and threw three perfect innings with four strikeouts to earn the win. 26 of his 34 pitches went for strikes as he reportedly hit 97 mph. Osvaldo Berrios tossed a scoreless ninth.
Peoria took the lead 1-0 in the first inning. Darlin Moquete singled. Chase Davis drew a walk. Tre Richardson singled to score Moquete. Davis was thrown out at third.
The Chiefs scored without a hit in the second to go up 2-0. Trey Paige received a free pass. Sammy Hernandez was hit by a pitch. Brayden Jobert walked. Paige came home on a walk by Moquete.
Beloit plated their first run in the third inning, tied the game in the fourth and took a 3-2 lead in the fifth.
Peoria came back to put up a four run seventh to take back the lead 6-3. Richardson drew a walk. Won-Bin Cho singled. Hernandez was hit by a pitch again. Pinch-hitter Alex Iadisernia singled to plate Richardson and Cho. Jobert reached on an error and Hernandez scored. Iadisernia came home on a single by Brody Moore.
The Chiefs made it 7-3 in the eighth. Davis doubled and came home on a single by Cho.
Peoria scored seven runs on 11 hits. Moore was 2-for-6 with an RBI. Davis was 2-for-4. Cho was 2-for-5. Iadisernia drove in two.
Jobert stole two bases. Cho swiped his 11th bag. Richardson made a fielding error.
Peoria is 55-66 on the season, 29-27 in the second half and are in third place in the Midwest League West, 3.5 games back of Wisconsin, and one game back of Quad Cities for the playoff berth.
Thursday’s game: at Beloit, Hancel Rincon RHP (8-6, 3.73) vs. Thomas White LHP (3-3, 2.42) 6:35 CT.
Palm Beach 4, Daytona 3 (seven innings, Game 1)
The Class-A Cardinals edged the Tortugas by a 4-3 score in the first game of a twin bill at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday.
Springfield’s Tekoah Roby made his first rehab start and pitched one scoreless no-hit inning with one strikeout. Eight of his 13 pitches were strikes.
Regular starter Jose Davila relieved Roby. The right-hander surrendered three runs in 4 1/3 innings but received the win. Luis Gastelum threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his sixth save.
Daytona scored first with one run in the top of the second inning. Palm Beach tied the game in the home second with a solo home run by Jose Cordoba.
The Cardinals added two runs in the third to lead 3-1. J.J. Wetherholt and Joshua Baez singled. Ian Petrutz drove in Wetherholt on a single. Baez came home on a force out by Cordoba.
The Beach Birds increased the lead to 4-1 in the fourth on a solo home run by Lizandro Espinoza.
The Tortugas rallied for two runs in the sixth to shrink the lead to 4-3.
Palm Beach scored four runs on eight hits. Bryce Madron was 2-for-3. Cordoba had two RBI.
Baez stole two bases. Madron was caught stealing. Wetherholt made a throwing error.
Palm Beach 1 “at” Daytona 3 (seven innings, Game 2)
The Beach Birds lost to the Tortugas in the second game of the twin bill on Wednesday. The two played their rained out game from Daytona on July 20, so the Tortugas were the “home” team.
Jason Savacool started for Palm Beach. The right-hander pitched four innings, gave up three runs on seven hits and fanned six. Randel Clemente relieved Savacool and threw two scoreless innings.
In the first inning, the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead. Christian Martin, Jon Jon Gazdar and John Kross drew walks. Martin scored on a double play by Joshua Baez.
Daytona tied the game in the third inning and added two runs in the fourth to take the 3-1 lead.
Palm Beach scored one run on just two hits and four walks. Baez and Jose Suarez singled. Kross drew two free passes.
Gazdar made a throwing error. Savacool picked a runner off first base and second base.
Palm Beach is 75-46 on the season, 38-17 in the second half. They remain in first place in the FSL East.
Thursday’s game: vs. Daytona, RH Chen-Wei Lin (9-5, 2.89) vs. TBD 5:30 CT.
