Cardinals Minor League Notebook – August 27, 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-1 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield LH Brycen Mautz, pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Other standouts include Jose Cordoba, Jon Jon Gazdar, Jesus Baez and Rainiel Rodriguez.

Memphis 4 at Oklahoma City 2

The Triple-A Redbirds beat the Comets by a 4-2 score on Tuesday.

Starter Max Rajcic pitched four innings, gave up one run on four hits, struck out two and walked two.

Osvaldo Berrios relieved Rajcic and threw a scoreless fifth. Gerson Moreno surrendered one run in 2/3 of an inning. Oddanier Mosqueda hurled 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win. Chris Roycroft and Nick Raquet each tossed a scoreless inning. Raquet earned his second save.

Memphis scored in the top of the first inning. JJ Wetherholt walked. Matt Koperniak singled. Wetherholt came home on a sac fly by Blaze Jordan.

Oklahoma City tied the game in the home first.

The Redbirds regained the lead with two runs in the fourth. César Prieto and Matt Lloyd singled. Noah Mendlinger singled to score Prieto. Michael Siani walked. Mike Antico was hit by a pitch and Lloyd scored.

The Comets cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth.

Memphis extended the lead to 4-2 in the seventh on a solo home run by Jimmy Crooks.

The offense scored four runs on 11 hits. Mendlinger was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Koperniak was 2-for-5. Prieto was 2-for-4. Lloyd was 2-for-3.

On the bases, Wetherholt stole his sixth base of the season. Mendlinger and Lloyd were caught stealing.

Memphis is 67-58 overall, 26-26 in the second half. They are 11 games back of Scranton in the IL.

Springfield 2, Midland 0

The Double-A Cardinals blanked the RockHounds by a 2-0 score at Hammons Field on Tuesday.

Starter Brycen Mautz pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed four hits, fanned four and walked one to earn his seventh win.

Zane Mills relieved Mautz and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Luis Gastelum tossed the final two scoreless innings to earn his eighth save.

The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Chase Davis hit a solo home run. Joshua Baez doubled, stole third base, and scored on a throwing error.

Springfield plated two runs on four hits. Ramon Mendoza was 2-for-4.

Baez stole his 27th base. On defense, Mautz made an error on a pickoff attempt.

Springfield is 74-47 overall, 31-21 in the second half and is in first place the Texas League North.

Wednesday’s game: vs. Midland, Cade Winquest RHP (2-1, 2.41) vs. Gage Jump LHP (5-4, 1.89) 6:35 CT.

Peoria 12, South Bend 1

The High-A Chiefs pounded the Cubs in a 12-1 blowout win on Tuesday at Dozer Park.

Starter Nate Dohm pitched three scoreless innings, allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one.

Darlin Saladin relieved Dohm and threw three scoreless innings on one hit and two walks with four strikeouts to earn the win. Jawilme Ramirez surrendered one run in two innings. Benjamin Arias tossed a scoreless ninth.

Peoria took the lead in the first inning. Jon Jon Gazdar singled and advanced to second on an error. Gazdar scored on a single by Jesus Baez.

The Chiefs added two runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0. Deniel Ortiz hit a solo home run. Andrew Sojka doubled and came home on a single by Anyelo Encarnacion.

The Cubs put up their only run in the seventh inning.

The Chiefs ran away with the game in the eighth with nine runs.  Ortiz was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Won-Bin Cho singled. Jose Cordoba singled and Ortiz scored. Sojka plated Cho on a single. Encarnacion walked. Cordoba came home on a sac fly by Gazdar. Ryan Campos drove in Sojka and Encarnacion on a single and a fielding error. Travis Honeyman singled and Campos scored. Ortiz singled. Cho walked. Cordoba cleared the bases with a double.

The Chiefs scored 12 runs on 16 hits. Cordoba was 2-for-5 with four RBI. Gazdar and Baez went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Ortiz was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Sojka was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Cho scored two runs.

On the bases, Baez stole his first with the Chiefs. Gazdar swiped two bags. Cho stole his 20th and Ortiz stole his fifth. Encarnacion was caught stealing.

Peoria is 45-74 overall, 19-35 in the second half, and is fifth place in the Midwest League West, 11 games back of Beloit.

Wednesday’s game: vs. South Bend, Mason Molina LHP (0-1, 3.86) vs. Kevin Valdez RHP (2-2, 3.96) 6:35 CT.

Palm Beach 6 at Jupiter 7 (11 innings)

The Low-A Cardinals lost an extra inning one-run game to the Hammerheads on Tuesday.

Starter Leonel Sequera pitched four innings, gave up one run on four hits, fanned six and walked one.

Yordy Herrera relieved Sequera and surrendered three runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Zack Showalter collected one out. Bruno Lopez hurled two scoreless innings. Alex Breckheimer yielded two runs, one earned, in the ninth for a blown save. Charles Harrison allowed one unearned run in the final 1 1/3 innings and took the loss.

The Beach Birds went up 4-0 in the top of the third inning. Ryan Weingartner, Matthew Miura and Jack Gurevitch singled. Rainiel Rodriguez blasted a grand slam.

Jupiter scored one run in the home half of the inning.

The Hammerheads tied the game with a three run sixth.

Palm Beach broke the tie with a run in the eighth. Christian Martin doubled. Luis Pino and Weingartner walked. Miura reached on an error and Martin scored.

The Cardinals extended the lead to 6-4 in the top of the ninth. Jalin Flores singled. Christian Martin singled and Flores came home on a throwing error.

Jupiter tied the game again with a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth. The game went into the 10th and neither team scored.

In the 11th, the Cardinals failed to bring a run home on the top of the inning, but the Hammerheads succeeded and walked off the 7-6 win.

The Cardinals scored six runs on 11 hits. Rodriguez had four RBI. Gurevitch was 3-for-6. Martin was 2-for-5. Weingartner was 2-for-4.

On the bases, Gurevitch stole his second base of the season. On defense, Pino had an outfield assist at home plate. Rodriguez had a passed ball.

Palm Beach is 57-62 on the season, 25-28 in the second half, and is tied for last placed in the FSL East, 12.5 games back of St. Lucie.

Wednesday’s game: at Jupiter, RHP Andrew Dutkanych (0-1, 4.73) vs. TBD 5:30 CT.
