The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-2 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield 3B Deniel Ortiz, was 3-for-3 with a double, a two-run home run, a walk and three RBI. Other standouts: Liam Doyle, Josiah Ragsdale, Rainiel Rodriguez, Cade Crossland and Caden Ferraro.

The Triple-A Redbirds fell to the Knights in Charlotte by an 8-2 score on Tuesday.
Starter Jurrangelo Cijntje pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits, walked one and fanned six. Cijntje took the loss.
Jared Shuster relieved Cijntje and surrendered one run in 1 2/3 innings. Brycen Mautz yielded two unearned runs in 2/3 of an inning. Austin Love threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Cade Winquest and Skylar Hales finished the final run-free frame.
Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Victor Scott singled and stole second base. Leo Bernal walked. César Prieto singled to score Scott.

Charlotte took the lead 2-1 in the third inning and added four runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 6-1.
The Redbirds scored one additional run in the fifth. Scott singled and stole second base. Thomas Saggese was hit by a pitch. Prieto singled to plate Scott.
The Knights extended their lead to 8-2 in the sixth.
The offense scored two runs on 10 hits. Prieto was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Scott was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Ramon Mendoza was 3-for-4.
Scott stole two bases.
Mendoza and Chase Davis each made a fielding error. Mautz had a throwing error. Bligh Madris was charged with interference. Cijntje made an error on a pickoff attempt.
Memphis is 22-30 in the second half and is 10 games back of the Indianapolis Pirates in the International League.
Wednesday’s game: at Charlotte, Mason Molina LHP (1-2, 8.07) vs. Noah Schultz LHP (3-1, 2.03) 5:35 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals topped the Missions in an 8-0 shutout at Route 66 Stadium on Tuesday. It is Springfield’s seventh consecutive win.
Starter Liam Doyle pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed four hits, walked one and fanned six to earn his fifth win.

Nolan Sparks relieved Doyle and threw 2/3 of a scoreless inning. Andrew Schultz, Sandro Santana and Dominic Picone tossed a scoreless frame each to preserve the shutout.
Springfield went up 2-0 in the first inning. Rainiel Rodriguez and Josiah Ragsdale thumped solo home runs.

The Cardinals added two runs in the third to increase the lead to 4-0. Jesús Báez and Ragsdale singled. Deniel Ortiz drove in Báez on a single. Jack Gurevitch plated Ragsdale on a single.
The Cardinals made it 5-0 in the fourth on another solo home run by Rodriguez.

The lead was widened to 6-0 in the fifth. Ortiz doubled and scored on a single by Gurevitch.
Springfield extended the lead to 8-0 in the seventh on a two-run home run by Ortiz.
The Cardinals scored eight runs on 15 hits. Ortiz was 3-for-3 plus a walk with three RBI and two runs scored. Gurevitch was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Ragsdale was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Rodriguez hit two home runs for the second consecutive game. Tai Peete was 2-for-5.
Peete was caught stealing.
Springfield is 34-18 in the second half and is in first place in the Texas League North.
Wednesday’s game: vs. San Antonio, Tanner Franklin RHP (0-0, 4.20) vs. Luis Guitierrez LHP (1-1, 4.30) 6:35 CT.
The Chiefs blanked the Whitecaps on the road Tuesday by the score of 2-0.
Starter Cade Crossland pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowed one run, walked two and fanned nine to earn his second win. Crossland had a no-hitter until one out in the sixth and at one point retired 11 straight batters.

Bobby Olsen relieved Crossland and threw 2/3 of a scoreless inning. Liam Best hurled a scoreless eighth. Nelfy Ynfante tossed a scoreless ninth.
Peoria put up two runs in the sixth to take the lead. Sammy Hernandez walked. Jalin Flores doubled to score Hernandez. Flores scored on single by Caden Ferraro.
West Michigan was held scoreless while managing only two hits.
The Chiefs scored two runs on seven hits. Ferraro was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Hernandez stole two bases. Anyelo Encarnación swiped his 18th bag. Encarnación and Hernandez were both caught stealing.
The Chiefs are 25-29 in the second half and are in fifth place in the Midwest League West.
Wednesday’s game: at West Michigan, Ty Van Dyke RHP (3-5, 6.03) vs. Ben Jacobs LHP (4-2, 4.39) 5:35 CT.
The Class-A Cardinals were pounded in Dunedin by the Blue Jays, 7-1, on Tuesday.
Starter Branneli Franco pitched four innings, gave up two runs on two hits, walked one and fanned five. Franco took the loss.
Brian Garmon relieved Franco and surrendered three runs in 1 2/3 innings. JR Fordham relinquished two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Kaden Echeman tossed a scoreless eighth.
Palm Beach took the lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Travis Honeyman, rehabbing from Springfield.
Dunedin scored two runs in the fourth and added five runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-1 and eventually win the game.
The Cardinals scored one run on six hits. Sebastian Dos Santos was 2-for-4.
Dee Kennedy stole his fourth base.
The Cardinals are 27-28 in the second half and are in second place in the Florida State League East, seven games back of Daytona.
