The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-3 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Thomas Saggese, hit for the cycle with four RBI and three runs scored for Springfield. Other standouts include Kramer Robertson, Arquímedes Gamboa and Bracewell Taveras.

The Memphis Redbirds (20-24) fell to the Norfolk Tides (BAL, 23-21) on Saturday at AutoZone Park.
Michael McGreevy was touched for three runs in six innings. TCN’s no. 3 prospect yielded five hits, two walks and four strikeouts to take his fifth loss of the year.
After the Tides scored three runs in the third inning, Iván Herrera singled in the bottom half to bring one run home. In the sixth, Kramer Robertson scored one run via single.

In relief, Ryan Loutos gave up six runs in 1 1/3 innings. Chris Roycroft pitched 1 2/3 scoreless frames.
Robertson was 3-for-3 with three singles, a walk and an RBI. Herrera had two singles and one RBI. Irving Lopez walked twice and came across once. The lineup went 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.

The Springfield Cardinals (21-23) topped the Wichita Wind Surge (MIN, 23-21) at Riverfront Stadium on Saturday night.
Alex Cornwell tossed 5 2/3 innings and gave up one run on seven hits and a walk. TCN’s no. 40 prospect fanned six and earned his second Double-A win.
The Cardinals put up four runs in the first inning. After a wild pitch, Victor Scott came across to score. Thomas Saggese tripled to plate two and scored on another wild pitch. In the third, Arquímedes Gamboa drove in a run via double. The shortstop blasted a three-run homer in the fifth inning.
Out of the bullpen, Matt Svanson yielded one run in 2 1/3 frames. Roy Garcia closed out the game with a hitless ninth inning.
In the seventh inning, Saggese hit a solo home run, his 21st of the season. TCN’s no. 10 prospect doubled to bring Noah Mendlinger across in the eighth. Aaron Antonini brought home a run in the ninth with a single.

Saggese hit for the cycle with four RBI and three runs scored. Since being traded to the Cardinals, the 21-year-old is slashing .359/.447/.750/1.197 in 17 games.
The lineup recorded 17 hits. Scott recorded three and scored once. Gamboa was 2-for-4 with one walk, a homer, four RBI and two runs scored. L.J. Jones, Mike Antico and Antonini had two hits apiece.
On the base paths, Scott, Mendlinger, Antico and Gamboa all stole a bag. Scott and Antico were caught stealing.

Peoria 1 at Lake County 5 (7 innings, Game 1)
The Peoria Chiefs (25-21) were defeated by the Lake County Captains (CLE, 23-21) in game one of the doubleheader.
Starter Trent Baker surrendered five runs in 5 2/3 innings on nine hits and no walks. TCN’s no. 29 prospect fanned seven and took his eighth loss. Dionys Rodriguez pitched a scoreless 1/3 of an inning.
The Chiefs struck in the first inning with Jimmy Crooks’ solo home run, his 10th round-tripper of 2023. Lake County responded with one in the second and took the lead in the fourth.

Crooks recorded two of the four Peoria hits. Nathan Church and Chris Rotondo had one each. The lineup went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
Rotondo stole a base and Church was caught stealing.
Peoria 4 at Lake County 1 (7 innings, makeup of 8/17 game)
In the makeup from Thursday’s game, the Peoria Chiefs (26-21) defeated the Lake County Captains (CLE, 23-22) at Classic Auto Group Park.
Ian Bedell threw four innings and gave up one run. The 2020 draftee yielded three hits, two walks and six punchouts. Edwin Nunez earned his second High-A win after three hitless innings with two strikeouts.
In the second inning, Peoria took an early 2-0 lead. R.J. Yeager plated one with a single and Chris Rotondo grounded into a double play to bring Yeager home. Brody Moore blasted a solo homer in the fourth, his first for the Chiefs. Darlin Moquete laid down a bunt to score one and increase the lead to 4-1.
Carlos Linarez recorded the only multi-hit game with two. Every starter had one hit except Tyler Reichenborn and Jeremy Rivas. The lineup left eight runners on base.
On the base paths, Rivas took his 17th bag of 2023. Moore committed a throwing error.
Sunday’s game: at Lake County, RHP Zane Mills (5-5, 5.60) vs. RHP Jake Miller (0-0, 0.00) 12:00 CT
The Palm Beach Cardinals (21-24) were blanked by the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (MIN, 21-26) at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
Starter Hancel Rincon yielded three unearned runs in six innings on three hits and two walks. The right-hander struck out four and took his fifth loss.
In relief, Cade Winquest tossed 1 2/3 innings and gave up one run with three strikeouts. Just up from the FCL, Wilmer Ortega recorded a hitless 1 1/3 frames.
The Palm Beach lineup only had one hit and one walk. Joshua Baez doubled in the third inning and Chase Davis walked.
Contributing to his misfortune, Rincon committed two errors plus Tre Richardson had one. Zach Levenson threw a runner out at second base from left field and Rincon picked a runner off.

FCL Cardinals at FCL Astros (canceled)
Due to rain, the Florida Complex League Cardinals (17-31) and Astros (25-23) contest was canceled.

DSL Cardinals 2 at DSL Tigers1 1 (7 innings)
In a seven-inning contest, the Dominican Summer League Cardinals (17-35) edged the Tigers1 (25-25) on Saturday morning.
Starter Stiveen Rojas tossed three scoreless innings on a hit and three walks. The 16-year-old fanned three. Out of the bullpen, Juan Severino gave up one run in two innings with two punchouts.
Both Cardinals runs came in the seventh inning after they were down 1-0. Marcelo Perez singled to bring the tying run to the plate. Bracewell Taveras blasted a two-run home run, his fourth of the season.
Yordy Herrera struck out four and walked two in 1 1/3 hitless innings. The left-hander earned his second win. Giovanni Vargas saved his first career game after a hitless 2/3 of an inning with two punchouts.
The bottom four players in the lineup went a combined 7-for-12. Paulo Asprilla, Perez and Taveras all recorded two hits and Heriberto Caraballo had one. The lineup left seven runners on base.
In the field, Fernando Roquez committed a fielding error. Asprilla had a passed ball.
