The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-3 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis 1B Matt Lloyd, was 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored. Other standouts include Quinn Mathews, Nathan Church, Chase Davis, Zach Levenson and Yeferson Portolatin.

Behind Matt Lloyd’s five RBI, the Triple-A Redbirds walloped the Tides in a 13-2 road win on Friday.
Quinn Mathews made his best start in some time. The lefty pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up two runs on five hits, fanned a season-high nine and walked just one to earn his third win.

Chris Roycroft relieved Mathews and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Memphis went up 2-0 in the second inning. Matt Koperniak singled. César Prieto grounded into a force as Koperniak was out at second. Matt Lloyd doubled and Prieto scored. Bryan Torres plated Lloyd on a single.
The Redbirds put up five runs in the top of the seventh to increase the lead to 7-0. Mike Antico walked, stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. JJ Wetherholt, Nathan Church and Jimmy Crooks walked and Antico scored. Koperniak walked to score Wetherholt. Prieto plated Church and Crooks on a single. Koperniak came home on a sac fly by Lloyd.
Norfolk scored two runs in the home seventh to avert the shutout.
Memphis ran up the score with a six-run eighth to lead 13-2. Torres walked. Wetherholt singled. Church drove in Torres on a single. Crooks plated Wetherholt on a single. Prieto reached on an error and Church scored. Lloyd followed with a three-run home run.

The Redbirds offense scored 13 runs on 11 hits. Lloyd was 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored. Church was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Crooks and Prieto each drove in two and scored twice.
Lloyd stole his fifth base of the season. Antico swiped his 15th bag.
Memphis is 57-47 overall, 16-15 in the second half. They are eight games back of IL leader Scranton.
Saturday’s game: at Norfolk, Max Rajcic RHP (0-1, 5.14) vs. Thaddeus Ward RHP (7-6, 5.90) 5:35 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals were pounded by the Travelers by a 7-1 score on Friday at Hammons Field. Starter Ixan Henderson pitched six innings, gave up four runs on six hits, fanned four and walked two. Henderson took the loss.
Zane Mills relieved Henderson and surrendered three runs in 1 2/3 innings. Nathanael Heredia tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Arkansas took a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Springfield scored their only run in the fifth. Chase Davis singled. Leonardo Bernal walked. Joshua Baez was hit by a pitch. Noah Mendlinger reached on an error and Davis scored.
The Travelers added a run in the sixth and three in the eighth to widen the lead to 7-1.
The Springfield offense scored one run on seven singles, struck out 10 times and was just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Davis was 3-for-5. St. Louis rehabber Lars Nootbaar went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts but made a stellar defensive play.

On the bases, Jeremy Rivas was picked off first.
Springfield is 62-38 overall, 19-12 in the second half and is in first place the Texas League North.
Saturday’s game: vs Arkansas, Brycen Mautz LHP (3-2, 3.47) vs. Marcelo Perez RHP (2-0, 3.06) 6:35 CT.
The High-A Chiefs lost to the Sky Carp by a 5-1 score on Friday. Starter Jose Davila pitched just 1/3 of an inning, gave up three runs on two hits, struck out one and walked three. The right-hander took the loss.
The pen carried a heavy load but kept the Chiefs in the game. Dionys Rodriguez relieved Davila and threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Darlin Saladin surrendered two runs in 2 2/3 innings. Domenic Picone tossed the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Beloit went up 3-0 in the first inning. They added two runs in the sixth to increase the lead to 5-0.
Peoria got on the board in the eighth on a solo home run by Zach Levenson.

The Chiefs scored one run on six hits. Levenson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Josh Kross was 2-for-4. The offense struck out 10 times, was 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Peoria is 39-60 overall, 13-21 in the second half, and is in fifth place in the Midwest League West, 7.5 games back of Beloit.
Saturday’s game: at Beloit, Braden Davis LHP (1-0, 1.80) vs. Will Schomberg RHP (2-5, 3.86) 6:35 CT.
The Low-A Cardinals fell to the Hammerheads by the score of 5-3 on Friday. Starter Nelfy Ynfante pitched four innings, gave up one run on five hits, fanned five and walked two and took the hard-luck loss.
Three relievers allowed a combined four runs. Yordy Herrera followed Ynfante and surrendered two runs, one earned in two innings. Charles Harrison yielded one run in 1 2/3 innings. Sam Brodersen allowed one run in the final 1 1/3 innings.
Jupiter took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. They added two runs in the sixth, one run in the seventh, and one run in the top of the ninth.
Palm Beach scored three runs in the home ninth to shrink the final score to 5-3. Jonathan Mejia walked, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jose Suarez, Luis Pino and Sammy Hernandez walked and Mejia scored. Jose Cordoba singled to plate Suarez and Pino.
The Cardinals scored three runs on three hits. Pino had the only extra base hit, a double. Cordoba had two RBI.
On the bases, Hernandez stole his ninth base of the season. On defense, Mejia made a throwing error.
Palm Beach is 48-49 overall, 16-16 in the second half, and is in third place in the FSL East, seven games back of St. Lucie.

DSL Cardinals 4, DSL Mets Blue 3 (seven innings)
The Dominican Cardinals walked off the Mets by a 4-3 score in seven innings on Friday. Starter Xavier Cruz pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed two runs, fanned four and walked one.
Hendrick Cana relieved Cruz and threw three scoreless innings. Beiker Rodriguez surrendered three unearned runs in 2 1/3 innings but received his second win.
The game was scoreless until the seventh inning when the Mets put up three runs.
The Cardinals answered with four runs in the home seventh to walk it off 4-3. Yaxson Lucena walked. Cristofer Lebron doubled and Lucena scored. Lucas Takahashi was hit by a pitch. Michael Cordero walked. Hector Cabrera lined into a double play with Takahashi out at second. Yeferson Portolatin followed with a three-run home run.
The Cardinals scored four runs on five hits. No Cardinal had multiple hits. Portolatin had three RBI.
On the bases, Sebastian Dos Santos and Takahashi were both caught stealing. On defense, Lebron and Edward Guribe each had a fielding error. Cana picked a runner off first base.
The DSL Cardinals are 22-21 on the season and are in third place in the DSL Southeast Division, four games back of the Marlins.
