The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-4 in five Saturday games. Our Player of the Day is left fielder Felix Taveras, who was 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the Cardinals Red win over the Cardinals Blue.

Memphis at Norfolk (postponed)
This game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Sunday’s games: at Norfolk, Jake Woodford (0-2, 6.75)/Connor Thomas LHP (5-1, 3.28) 12:05 CT (Game 1)
The S-Cards fell to the Arkansas Travelers in a three-run loss at Dickey-Stephens Park on Saturday night.
Arkansas went up 2-0 in the first inning and extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth. The Cardinals finally got on the board in the top of the fifth when Chandler Redmond singled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a ground out by Nick Dunn.
Arkansas answered with three runs in the home half of the fifth to widen their margin to 6-1. The Cardinals cut the lead to 6-3 in the sixth. Malcom Nunez and Julio Rodriguez walked and Chandler Redmond doubled to plate both.
Redmond was 2-for-4 with two RBI. No other Cardinal had multiple hits.
Fill in starter Grant Black pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits, struck out one and walked three. Black took the loss. Michael Brettell tossed the final 4 2/3 innings and surrendered three runs on five hits.
On the base paths, Brendan Donovan was caught stealing for the fifth time this season.
Springfield is 34-55 and is in last place in the Double-A Central North Division, 17 games back of first place Wichita.
Sunday’s game: at Arkansas, TBD vs. TBD 2:10 CT.
The Chiefs defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels by the score of 7-3 on Saturday night at Dozer Park. Miles Mikolas made his final rehab start and first for Peoria. The MLB veteran pitched seven innings, gave up three runs on six hits and punched out eight to earn the win. Mac Lardner tossed the final two scoreless innings.
Cedar Rapids took the lead initially with a run in the first inning off Mikolas. Peoria put up three runs in fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Jordan Walker singled and scored on a single by Leandro Cedeno. Zade Richardson followed with a two-run home run to left center field.
The Chiefs added a run in the fifth on the bat and the legs of Masyn Winn. Winn singled, stole second and third base, and scored on a throwing error.
The Kernels tightened the game in the sixth by scoring two runs to cut Peoria’s lead to 4-3. The Chiefs responded with three in the seventh on singles by Winn and Richardson, with the help of a throwing error. Peoria jumped ahead 7-3, a lead they kept through the final innings.
Winn was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Richardson was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Francisco Hernandez was 2-for-4 and Tyler Reichenborn was 2-for-3.
On the base paths, the Chiefs were busy. Jordan Walker stole his fourth base of the season. Winn stole three bases in the game. Hernandez swiped his fifth bag of 2021. Reichenborn and Matt Chamberlain were both caught stealing.
Peoria is 34-55 and sits in last place in the High-A Central West Division, 25 games back of first place Quad Cities.

Palm Beach 3, Lakeland 7 (Game 1)
The Cardinals were defeated by the Flying Tigers in the opener of a twin bill on Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Starter Ludwin Jimenez pitched 1 1/3 innings, gave up one run on two hits and struck out one. Jose Moreno relieved and surrendered four runs in 3 1/3 innings. Nathanael Heredia yielded two runs in four innings pitched. Andrew Marrero got the last out of the ninth. Moreno took the loss.
Lakeland got on the board first with one run in the second inning. The Beach Birds came back in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Elijah Cabell led off with a single and scored on a double by Osvaldo Tovalin. Mack Chambers singled to plate Tovalin. Palm Beach added a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Cabell.
The Flying Tigers took the lead back in the fifth with a four-run inning. Lakeland maintained the lead for the next three innings then added on in the ninth with two insurance runs.
The Cardinals were unable to score past the fourth inning. Cabell, Jacob Buchberger, and Thomas Francisco each had two hits.
On the base paths, Buchberger was caught stealing for the second time in 2021. Chambers was caught stealing for the first time.
Palm Beach 1, Lakeland 3 (eight innings, Game 2)
The Cardinals were the victims of a two-game sweep of the twin bill at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday. The Beach Birds offense managed only one run on seven hits.
Lakeland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Palm Beach tied it up in the fourth on singles by Aaron McKeithan and Noah Mendlinger, followed by a force out by Wade Stauss in which McKeithan scored on a throwing error. That was the only run the Cardinals could scratch across the plate.
The game remained tied through the scheduled seven innings and went into extras. Lakeland scored twice in the top of the eighth and Palm Beach was unable to rally in the bottom half.
Jacob Buchberger was 2-for-4 and Noah Mendlinger was 2-for-3.

Cardinals starter John Beller pitched six innings and gave up one unearned run on four hits, fanned four and walked one. Andre Granillo tossed the final two innings and surrendered two unearned runs to take the loss, his first as a professional.
On the base paths, Mendlinger was caught stealing for the first time. In the field, Beller made a throwing error and Mendlinger and Granillo had fielding miscues.
Palm Beach is 26-59 and is in last place in the Low-A Southeast East Division, 20 games back of first place St. Lucie.

FCL Cardinals – Off

DSL Cardinals Blue 2 at DSL Cardinals Red 10
The Cardinals Blue lost to the Cardinals Red 10-2 in their weekly Saturday morning contest. Blue starter Ronny Oliver pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on four hits, fanned five and walked one. Victor Herrera relieved and got the final out of the fourth. Herrera returned to start the fifth and surrendered seven runs, five earned, without recording an out. Juan Peralta completed the fifth inning. Alexander Beltre tossed two scoreless innings and Uriel Curvelo threw a scoreless eighth. Oliver took the loss, his first of the season.
The Blue offense was held scoreless until the sixth inning. Adari Grant was hit by a pitch and Maycol Justo singled. Jose Cordoba walked to load the bases. Alejandro Loaiza walked, and Grant scored. Justo then scored on a passed ball.
Loaiza was 2-for-3 with an RBI. No other Blue player had multiple hits.
The Red starter was Diorys Guerrero, who pitched five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, fanned five and walked one to earn his second win of the season. Samuel Fabian relieved and surrendered two runs in 2/3 of an inning. Eduar Pimentel, Bruno Lopez, and Americo Lugo combined to throw the final 3 1/3 scoreless frames.
Red got on the board in the third inning on a solo home run by Felix Taveras. In the fourth, Samil De La Rosa doubled and scored on a triple by Romtres Cabrera. Cabrera scored on a wild pitch.
The Red offense put up a crooked number in the fifth, scoring seven runs to lead 10-0. Taveras doubled and scored on a double by Santiago Carbonara. Maikel Hernandez followed with a single. Carbonara scored on a wild pitch. Elias Reynoso and De La Rosa walked. Carlos Carmona plated Hernandez and Reynoso on a double. Cabrera was hit by a pitch. De La Rosa and Carmona scored on a fielder’s choice with an error. Cabrera scored on a single by Taveras.
Player of the Day Taveras was 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. De La Rosa was 2-for-3. Carmona had two RBI.
On the base paths for Blue, Loaiza was picked off and caught stealing. For Red, Cabrera and Lizandro Ezpinoza were both caught stealing.
In the field for Blue, Grant made a missed catch error. For Red, De La Rosa made a throwing error, and Hernandez had a passed ball. Guerrero picked Loaiza off first base.
