The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-4 on Friday. The Palm Beach game was suspended and the FCL Cardinals game was postponed. The Player of the Day is Memphis SS Kramer Robertson, who was 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in Memphis’ loss to Norfolk.

The Cardinals were defeated by Norfolk 7-4 in a Friday night contest at Harbor Park on Friday night. Starter Johan Oviedo pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on eight hits, struck out four and walked four. Austin Warner relieved Oviedo and surrendered two runs in 2 1/3 innings. Connor Jones tossed a scoreless eighth. Oviedo took the loss, his third of the season.
The Tides took the lead early with one run in both the first and second innings. The scored remained 2-0 until the fifth inning when the Redbirds put up four runs on a three-run home run by Kramer Robertson and a solo home run by Juan Yepez.
Norfolk answered with three runs in the home half of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. The Tides increased their lead to 7-4 in the seventh.
Robertson was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. He was the only Redbird with multiple hits. Other extra base hits included doubles by Alec Burleson and Conner Capel.
In the field, Capel and Clint Coulter both had outfield assists at home plate.
Memphis is 41-47 and is in fifth place in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, 14.5 games back of first placed Durham.
Saturday’s game: at Norfolk, Jake Woodford RHP (0-2, 6.75) vs. Konner Wade RHP (3-2, 3.03) 6:05 CT.
The Cardinals were edged by the Arkansas Travelers in a one run game on Friday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.
The game was scoreless for the first four innings. In the top of the fifth, Springfield got on the board to take a 1-0 lead. David Vinsky drew a walk and then stole second base. Delvin Perez singled to plate Vinsky.
Norfolk responded in the home half of the fifth with two runs to go up 2-1. That score remained until the eighth when the Cardinals scored a run to tie it up 2-2. Vinsky tripled and scored and scored on a single by Brendan Donovan.
Once again, the Tides answered the Cardinals by scoring two in the bottom of the eight to regain the lead 4-2. Springfield attempted a rally in the ninth, scoring one on a solo home run by Julio Rodriguez, but the rally fell short.
Perez was 2-for-4 with an RBI and was the only Cardinal with multiple hits.
Starter Kevin McGovern pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on five hits, fanned six and walked two. Kevin Marnon relieved McGovern and surrendered two runs in the eighth to take the loss, his first of the season.
On the base paths, Perez stole his 20th base of the season, and Vinsky stole his second base of the season.
In the field, Chandler Redmond made a fielding error and Vinsky had an outfield assist at third base. Rodriguez had a passed ball.
Springfield is 34-54 and sits in last place in the Double-A Central North Division, 17.5 games back of first place Wichita.
Saturday’s game: at Arkansas, Tyler Pike LHP (4-3, 4.70) vs. George Kirby RHP (0-0, 0.00) 6:10 CT.
The Chiefs suffered a one run loss to Cedar Rapids in a Friday night contest at Dozer Park. Starter Logan Gragg pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up two unearned runs on six hits, struck out four and walked three. Diego Cordero relieved Gragg and surrendered two runs in 2 2/3 relief innings to take the loss, his first of the season. Jack Ralston pitched a scoreless ninth.
Peoria scored first with two runs in the second inning. Aaron Antonini drew a walk to begin the inning, then Zade Richardson thumped a two-run home run to right field to give the Chiefs the 2-0 lead
The score remained 2-0 until the sixth, when the Kernels scored two runs to knot it up 2-2. Peoria regained the lead 3-2 in the home half of the sixth on a solo home run by Antonini.
Cedar Rapids put up two unanswered runs in the seventh to go ahead 4-3 and take home the victory.
The Chiefs offense scored three runs on five hits, two of which were long balls. No Chief had multiple hits. Richardson had two RBI.
In the field, Richardson made a dropped foul error. Cordero picked a runner off first base.
Peoria is 33-55 and stand in last place in the High-A Central West Division, 26 games back of first place Quad Cities.

Palm Beach, Lakeland (suspended)
This game was suspended in the top of the second inning with one out and Lakeland leading 1-0. The game will be resumed on Saturday, August 14.

FCL Cardinals at FCL Nationals (postponed)
The game between the Cardinals and the Nationals was postponed due to rain. It will be made up on August 25 as the second game of a doubleheader.
Saturday’s game: No game scheduled.
DSL Cardinals Blue O at DSL Mets1 4
The Cardinals Blue (10-12) were blanked by the Mets1 4-0 on Friday morning.
The Cardinals offense managed only two hits, both singles, and were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Diego Velasquez singled to center in the third inning but was left stranded. Kehawn Rombley singled to right in the fifth inning but was caught stealing.
Starter Henry Gomez pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on two hits, struck out three and walked three. Gomez took the loss. Miguel Martinez relieved Gomez and tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Oliver Lopez threw a scoreless sixth.
On the base paths, Velasquez stole his first base of the season. Rombley was caught stealing for the first time.
In the field, CF Luis Pino had an outfield assist at home plate.

DSL Cardinals Red 5, DSL Cubs Red 4
The Cardinals Red (10-9) edged the Cubs Red in a one run contest on Friday morning. Starter Engels Martinez pitched four innings, gave up one unearned run on four hits, and struck out two.
Darlin Saladin relieved Martinez and surrendered three runs in two innings pitched. Saladin was awarded the win, his fourth of the season. Augusto Calderon tossed a scoreless seventh to earn his fourth save.
The Cubs got on the board in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals quickly answered with one run in the home half of the first to tie it up. Elias Reynoso walked and stole second base. Carlos Carmona walked and Reynoso advanced to third on a wild pitch. Reynoso then stole home to score the tying run.
The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead in the third on a solo home run by Romtres Cabrera. The score remained 2-1 until the sixth inning. The Cubs scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead.
The Cardinals responded by also scoring three runs in the home half of the sixth. Cabrera was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Santiago Carbonara reached on a throwing error and Cabrera advanced to third. Jose Rodriguez then doubled to plate Cabrera and Carbonara. Lizandro Espinosa pinch ran for Rodriguez. Espinosa stole third base and scored on a throwing error.
The final score became 5-4 when neither team scored in the seventh. The Cardinal offense scored five runs on four hits. No Cardinal had multiple hits. Rodriguez had two RBI.
On the base paths, Reynoso stole two bases. Carmona and Espinoza each stole a base. In the field, Miguel Vargas made a throwing error and Carbonara had a fielding miscue.
