The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield catcher Leonardo Bernal, crushed a ninth-inning game-tying three-run home run. Other standouts include Matt Koperniak, Carlos Linarez, Pete Hansen and Rainiel Rodriguez.

Memphis Redbirds 2, Durham Bulls 4
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds lost a close contest to the Durham Bulls in Sunday’s series finale at AutoZone Park.
Aaron Wilkerson made his fourth start for the Redbirds. The right-hander pitched five innings and allowed three runs on three hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Wilkerson took the loss.
Zack Weiss struck out three across two shutout frames in relief. Left-hander Oddanier Mosqueda recorded two outs in the eighth without allowing a run. Chris Roycroft yielded a run while throwing the remaining 1 ⅓ innings.
Durham took a 3-0 lead with a run in the third and two in the fifth.
Memphis narrowed the gap to one with a two-run bottom of the sixth. Nathan Church drew a lead-off walk. Jimmy Crooks followed with a single. Blaze Jordan grounded into a double play, with Church coming home. Matt Koperniak drilled his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot, to bring the Redbirds within one at 3-2.

The Redbirds threatened once more in the seventh. Bryan Torres singled and swiped second base. Mike Antico walked. Antico and Torres executed a double steal, putting both in scoring position. Both runners were left on base as the rally fell short.
The Bulls added an insurance run in the ninth. Memphis failed to respond.
The Redbirds scored two runs on nine hits. Koperniak was 2-for-4 with a solo home run for the team’s lone extra-base hit. Torres and Crooks recorded two hits apiece. Church singled, walked, and scored. Memphis did not have a hit with runners in scoring position.
On the bases, Torres stole second base and third base for 22 steals on the year. Antico swiped his 18th.
The Redbirds did not commit an error on defense.
Memphis is 59-53 overall, and 18-21 in the second half after taking just two of six from Durham. They reside in fourth place in the International League West Division, 11 games back of first place. The Redbirds will travel to Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina, for a six-game series with the Charlotte Knights, starting Tuesday.
Tuesday’s game: at Charlotte (CWS). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:04 PM CT.
Springfield Cardinals 5 at San Antonio Missions 3 (10 innings)
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals stunned the Missions in San Antonio with a late comeback to take Sunday’s series finale in extra innings, for their fifth consecutive win.
Pete Hansen made his 21st start for Springfield. The left-hander pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts.
Randel Clemente tossed a scoreless sixth inning in relief. Tyler Bradt threw a shutout seventh. Ricardo Velez yielded a run in the eighth. Leonardo Taveras pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. Zane Mills secured his first save at the Double-A level with a scoreless bottom of the 10th. Taveras collected his third win.
San Antonio scored single runs in the first, fourth and eighth innings to carry a 3-0 lead into the ninth.
Chase Davis and Jeremy Rivas hit back-to-back ground ball singles to open the ninth frame. Leonardo Bernal smashed his 13th home run of the season, a three-run shot, to clear the bases and tie the game at three.

Springfield took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the 10th. Noah Mendlinger began the inning at second base and moved to third base on a Brody Moore groundout. Ramon Mendoza reached on a fielder’s choice, with Mendlinger out at home. Carlos Linarez connected for a double to bring Mendoza home and put Springfield in front 4-3.

Chase Davis singled to plate Linarez for an insurance run and a 5-3 Cardinals lead.
Mills and Springfield held San Antonio scoreless in the home 10th to complete the comeback.
The Cardinals scored five runs on eight hits. Bernal drove in three runs with a home run. Davis was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. Linarez hit the go-ahead double for an RBI. Rivas singled, walked, and scored a run.
Davis was caught stealing second base.
On defense, catcher Bernal made a throwing error. The Cardinals turned two double plays.
Last year, Springfield qualified for the postseason with a franchise-best 79-59 record.
This year, Springfield is a season-high 30 GAMES over .500 (69-39) after tonight's extra inning, come-from-behind win.

Springfield is 69-39 overall, and 26-13 in the second half after winning five of six in San Antonio. They hold a four-game lead in the Texas League North Division. The Cardinals will head back home to Hammons Field for a six-game set with the Wichita Wind Surge, starting Tuesday.

Peoria Chiefs vs. Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (canceled)
The High-A Peoria Chiefs’ series finale with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers was canceled on Sunday due to wet grounds at Dozer Park. The game will not be made up as the two teams do not play each other for the remainder of the season.

Peoria is 43-63 overall, and 17-24 in the second half after taking two of five from Wisconsin. They reside in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division, seven games back of first place. The Chiefs will travel to Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, to begin a six-game series with the Lake County Captains on Tuesday.

Palm Beach Cardinals 2 at Dunedin Blue Jays 3 (7 innings, game one)
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals dropped a tight contest to the Blue Jays in Dunedin in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader. This was the resumption of Saturday’s suspended contest with play resuming in the top of the third inning.
Ty Van Dyke started for Palm Beach in his professional debut. The right-hander tossed two scoreless innings on no hits, no walks, and three strikeouts.
Bobby Olsen took the mound upon the game’s resumption, making his professional debut. The right-hander fired three shutout frames on one hit, one walk, and five strikeouts. Zack Showalter surrendered three runs across 1 ⅓ innings and was tagged with a blown save and the loss. Edwin Nuñez did not record an out in the bottom of the seventh as he allowed the tying run (inherited) then winning run to score in the walk-off.
On Saturday, Palm Beach grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Rainiel Rodriguez led off the game with his seventh home run with Palm Beach. Jonathan Mejia crushed his sixth home run, also a solo shot.
The Cardinals were unable to score after the resumption of play on Sunday, however.
The Cardinals scored two runs on five hits. Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a home run. Mejia drilled a home run. Yordalin Pena and Chase Heath singled. Palm Beach drew just two walks and struck out 12 times.
On the basepaths, Pena stole two bags to increase his season total to 17. Rodriguez swiped his third. Jose Cordoba snagged his seventh base.
The Cardinals did not commit an error.
Palm Beach Cardinals 4 at Dunedin Blue Jays 0 (7 innings, game two)
The Palm Beach Cardinals blanked the Dunedin Blue Jays in game two of Sunday’s doubleheader.
Nelfy Ynfante started for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched five scoreless innings on three hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. Ynfante earned his fourth win of 2025.
Yordy Herrera and Aaron Holiday each threw a scoreless inning of relief to seal the win.
The Cardinals plated the first run of the game in the third inning. Jack Gurevitch, Jonathan Mejia and Jose Suarez singled to load the bags. Matthew Miura legged out an infield single to score Gurevitch and record his first professional RBI.
The Cardinals doubled the lead with a run in the fifth. Christian Martin walked and moved to second base on a Jose Suarez groundout. Martin stole third base and scored on a Jalin Flores single. This marked Flores’s first career hit and RBI.
Palm Beach moved ahead by three in the sixth. Yordalin Pena lined a double and Sammy Hernandez ripped a single to bring him home for a 3-0 Cardinals lead.
The Cardinals added an insurance run in the seventh. Miura singled, stole second base and advanced to third via a throwing error from the catcher. Pena singled home Miura to extend the lead to 4-0.
Palm Beach held Dunedin to just three singles in the shutout victory.
The Cardinals scored four runs on 11 hits. Pena was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Miura went 2-for-4, including a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. Hernandez singled and drove in a run. Flores tallied his first hit and RBI. Gurevitch went 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
On the bases, Gurevitch stole the first bag of his career. Miura swiped two to increase his total to three. Mejia snagged his 16th. Martin stole his third base for his 19th steal.
Defensively, pitcher Herrera made a throwing error.
Palm Beach is 52-54 overall, and 20-21 in the second half. They reside in second place in the Florida State League East Division, 10.5 games back of first place. The Cardinals will head home to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium for a six-game set with the Bradenton Marauders, starting Tuesday.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Bradenton (PIT). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM CT.
DSL Cardinals (off-day)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals were off Sunday, as they prepared for a road contest with the DSL Cubs on Monday.
The Cardinals will look to rebound after a close loss to the DSL Nationals on Saturday.
The DSL Cardinals are 26-23 on the season. They are tied for second place in the DSL Southeast Division, six games out of first place.
Monday’s game: at DSL Cubs Blue. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 AM CT.
