The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-2 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach RHP Gabriel Chinchilla, pitched four dominant relief innings with seven strikeouts. Other standouts: Leo Bernal, Victor Scott II, Thomas Saggese, Liam Doyle and Trevor Haskins.

Memphis Redbirds 5 at Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 9
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds dropped Friday’s road contest to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
Jurrangelo Cijntje started for Memphis. The switch-pitcher faced 23 batters right-handed and two hitters left-handed. Cijntje pitched five innings and allowed three runs on three hits, six walks, and five strikeouts.
Brycen Mautz surrendered three runs and recorded just one out in relief of Cijntje, taking a blown save and the loss. Ryan Fernandez secured the final two outs of the sixth inning. Cade Winquest gave up three runs across 1 ⅔ innings. Austin Love recorded the final out of the eighth.
The Redbirds struck first with a two-run top of the first inning. Victor Scott II hit a lead-off single and stole second base. With two outs, Leo Bernal crushed his 14th home run of 2026, a two-run shot, to put Memphis in front 2-0.

Jacksonville trimmed the lead in half with a run in the home first. Memphis took the run back in the third. Scott II belted his second home run of the year with Memphis, a solo shot.

The Jumbo Shrimp knotted the game at three with a pair of runs in the fourth.
Memphis regained the lead at 4-3 in the top of the sixth when Thomas Saggese pounded his eighth Memphis home run of the year, a solo blast.

Jacksonville plated three runs apiece in the home sixth and eighth innings to take a 9-4 lead.
Down to their last three outs, the Redbirds looked to answer.
Colton Ledbetter hit a one-out double and took third on a wild pitch. Brody Moore brought Ledbetter home on a groundout. Noah Mendlinger singled but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double to end the game.
The Redbirds scored five runs on nine hits. Bernal was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBI. Scott II was 2-for-4, including a home run and two runs scored. Saggese hit a home run. Ledbetter was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
On the bases, Scott II stole his 10th bag of the year with Memphis. Ledbetter swiped his 17th base.
Memphis is 12-19 in the second half and 59-47 overall.

Springfield Cardinals 1, Wichita Wind Surge 6
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals fell to the Wichita Wind Surge at Route 66 Stadium on Friday.
Liam Doyle made his 17th start for Springfield. The left-hander pitched 5 ⅔ innings and allowed one run on four hits, no walks, and a career-high 10 strikeouts. Despite the strong performance but with no offensive support, Doyle took the loss.

Darlin Saladin yielded two runs across 1 ⅓ innings in relief of Doyle. Nolan Sparks gave up a run in the eighth. Lefty Jack Findlay allowed two runs in the ninth.
After Springfield shortstop Jesús Báez was ejected in the fourth inning, Wichita plated a run to break the scoreless tie. The Wind Surge added two runs in the seventh, one in the eighth, and two in the ninth to carry a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the frame.
The Cardinals looked for a comeback with three outs remaining. Deniel Ortiz led off the frame with a double. Won-Bin Cho followed with an infield single to move Ortiz to third base. Zach Levenson hit a second consecutive infield single to bring Ortiz home and put the Cardinals in the run column at 6-1. The rally ended there as a flyout and a double play finished the game.
The Cardinals scored one run on six hits. Ortiz walked, doubled, and scored. Levenson singled and logged an RBI. Cho was 2-for-4. The lineup was just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
On the bases, Miguel Ugueto stole his 24th bag.
On defense, Tre Richardson III nailed a runner at second base from left field.
Springfield is 20-11 in the second half and 51-48 overall.

Peoria Chiefs at Cedar Rapids Kernels (suspended)
The High-A Peoria Chiefs’ road contest with the Cedar Rapids Kernels was suspended on Thursday due to rain.
The game is scheduled to be completed at 4:30 PM CT, with Saturday’s regularly scheduled contest to follow its conclusion.
The game will resume in the bottom of the third inning with the Kernels ahead 2-0.
Peoria is 16-16 in the second half and 48-50 overall.
Saturday’s games: Game one is slated to resume at 4:30 PM CT. Game Two: RHP Tanner Franklin (3-4, 4.41) vs. RHP Justin Mitrovich (2-3, 2.56) 6:35 PM CT.
Palm Beach Cardinals 2 at Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 1
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals won a close contest over the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on the road on Friday.
Brandon Clarke started for Palm Beach, as he works to rejoin the Springfield Cardinals. The left-hander threw two innings and allowed one unearned run on no hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.

Gabriel Chinchilla struck out seven hitters across four scoreless innings in relief of Clarke. The right-hander lowered his Palm Beach ERA to 2.13 and collected his first Single-A win. Liam Best threw a shutout seventh. Nelfy Ynfante fanned two over the final two innings and picked up his fourth save.
Fort Myers opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning.
The Cardinals tied the game in the fifth. J.P. Cabrera singled and stole second base. Johnfrank Salazar walked. With two outs, Jonathan Mejía lined a single to bring Cabrera home.
Palm Beach grabbed a 2-1 lead in the seventh as Trevor Haskins launched his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot.
The Palm Beach bullpen combined to allow just two hits while striking out 10 in the victory.
The Cardinals scored two runs on seven hits. Haskins hit a go-ahead home run. Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Mejía singled and drove in a run.
On the bases, Cabrera swiped his first bag of the year with Palm Beach. Brayden Smith recorded his 28th steal.
On defense, shortstop Sebastian Dos Santos committed a fielding error. Pitcher Clarke had a pickoff error. Pitcher Chinchilla picked a runner off first base.
Palm Beach is 19-14 in the second half and 52-47 overall.
Saturday’s game: at Fort Myers. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:05 PM CT.
DSL Cardinals vs. Rangers Blue (postponed)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals’ home contest with the DSL Rangers Blue was postponed on Friday due to inclement weather. The game is slated to be made up on Wednesday, August 12.
The Cardinals are scheduled to play a home contest with the DSL Rangers Red on Saturday.
The DSL Cardinals are 20-21 on the season.
Saturday’s game: vs. DSL Rangers Red. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 AM CT.
