The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-3 on Wednesday as the pitching yielded 33 runs. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach starter Ty Van Dyke, threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Other standouts include Tai Peete, Mason Burns and Dominic Freeberger.

The Redbirds lost to the Knights by a 7-3 score at AutoZone Park on Wednesday.
Starter Quinn Mathews pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up seven runs on five hits, including two home runs, walked three and fanned six. After two strong innings, it fell apart for Mathews in the third as the prospect took the loss.
With the good, sometimes you have to post the bad.

Tink Hence relieved Mathews and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. However, he first allowed two runners inherited from Mathews to score. One was via a single and the other via a bases-loaded walk.
Chris Roycroft hurled a scoreless inning. Packy Naughton entered to relieve Roycroft. The lefty, who has already had two Tommy John surgeries, threw four pitches and was removed due to an apparent arm injury.

Ian Bedell stepped in and threw two scoreless innings of relief. Scott Blewett tossed a scoreless eighth.
Memphis took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. César Prieto began the game with a double. Joshua Báez singled to score Prieto. Leonardo Bernal reached on an error and Báez came home.
Charlotte put up seven runs in the third inning to take a 7-2 lead. Neither team scored again until Memphis added a third run in the ninth on a solo home run by Bernal.

Memphis scored three runs on three hits. The offense was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
Báez stole his third base of the season. Matt Koperniak had an outfield assist at second base.
Memphis is 9-2 on the season.
Thursday’s game: at Charlotte, RHP Richard Fitts (1-0, 1.74) vs. Duncan Davitt RHP (0-1, 7.88) 6:04 CT.
The Cardinals fell to the Drillers by the score of 10-4 on Wednesday. Starter Liam Doyle pitched three innings, gave up six runs, four earned, on eight hits, walked one and struck out three. The top pitching prospect in the system took the loss in his 2026 debut.
Randel Clemente relieved Doyle and surrendered two runs in 1 2/3 innings. Edwin Nuñez relinquished two runs in an inning of work. Ryan Murphy hurled 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Mason Burns tossed a scoreless ninth with a walk in between three strikeouts.

Tulsa took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then added four runs in the top of the second.
Springfield answered in the home half of the second with four runs to cut the lead to 5-4. Dakota Harris and Travis Honeyman walked. Trey Paige plated Harris on a single. Honeyman scored on a double by Graysen Tarlow. Paige came home on a ground out by Jeremy Rivas. Jon Jon Gazdar drove in Tarlow on a sac fly.

Tulsa continued to add on to their lead with one run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings, and two in the sixth. Springfield was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The Cardinals scored four runs on four hits. The offense was 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Tarlow had the only extra base hit.
Miguel Ugueto stole his third base of the season. Tarlow and Honeyman each made a throwing error. Tarlow had a passed ball.
Springfield is 4-1 on the season.
Thursday’s game: vs. Tulsa, SHP Jurrangelo Cijtnje (1-0, 0.00) vs. Adam Serwinoski LHP (0-1, 12.27) 6:35 CT.
The Chiefs were blown out by the Cubs by a 13-1 score at Dozer Park on Wednesday. Starter Nolan Sparks pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits and fanned seven. Sparks took the loss.
Sam Brodersen relieved Sparks and surrendered four runs in 1 1/3 innings. Bobby Olsen relinquished four runs in 2 1/3 innings. D.J. Carpenter allowed two more runs in the eighth. Dominic Freeberger struck out the side in the ninth as the only Chiefs hurler to be unscored upon.

The Cubs went up 2-0 in the third inning.
Peoria scored its only run in the bottom of the third. José Cordoba reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on another error and came home on a double by Tai Peete.
South Bend piled on with three runs in the fourth, three more in the fifth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth.
The Chiefs scored one run on two hits. Peete had both, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Cordoba stole a base. Jesus Baéz made two errors, one throwing and one fielding.
Peoria is 2-3 on the season.

Palm Beach 4 at Bradenton 3 (10 innings)
The Low-A Cardinals edged the Bradenton Marauders in an extra innings day game on Wednesday.
Starter Ty Van Dyke pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed three hits and fanned six. Van Dyke had a no-decision.
Yordy Herrera relieved Van Dyke and got the final out of the sixth inning. Alex Breckheimer surrendered three runs in four innings of relief, taking a blown save, but later receiving the win.
This game was scoreless until Palm Beach put up three runs in the fifth inning. Luis Pino reached on an error and stole second base. Trevor Haskins plated Pino on a double. Ryan Mitchell singled and stole second base. Haskins scored on a wild pitch, and Mitchell advanced to third. Jack Gurevitch walked. Mitchell came home on a balk.
Bradenton tied the game with a three-run eighth inning. The game went into extras.
In the top of the 10th, with Gurevitch on second base, Ryan Weingartner singled to advance Gurevitch to third. Alex Birge drew a walk to load the bases. Cameron Nickens walked, forcing Gurevitch home with the lead run.
It wasn’t easy for the Cardinals in the home 10th, but they prevailed after third baseman Christian Martin threw out the tying run at the plate. The game ended on the last of Breckheimer’s five strikeouts.
The Cardinals scored four runs on five hits. Haskins’ RBI double was the only extra base hit.
Pino, Mitchell, and Haskins each stole a base. Van Dyke picked a runner off first.
The Cardinals are 3-2 on the season.
