The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-0 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, catcher Gavin Collins, was 3-for-5 with five RBI in Memphis’ rout of Buffalo. Other standouts include Michael Helman, Jose Barrero, César Prieto and the bullpen.

The Memphis Redbirds pulverized the Bisons for a second straight day, a 15-3 laugher on Wednesday at AutoZone Park. Starter Sem Robberse pitched three innings, gave up three runs on five hits, fanned four and walked three.
Five relievers joined forces for six innings of one-hit shutout ball with 10 strikeouts. Alex Cornwell relieved Robberse and threw one inning to receive the win. None of his six batters faced put the ball in play. Cornwell walked the bases loaded and struck out the side. Andre Granillo followed with two frames. Riley O’Brien, Matt Svanson and Ryan Loutos each tossed an inning apiece.
The Bisons took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Redbirds answered with eight runs in the home half. José Fermín and César Prieto singled. Thomas Saggese drew a walk. Matt Koperniak was hit by a pitch and Fermín scored. Prieto came home on a single by Jose Barrero. Michael Helman drove in Saggese on a single. Gavin Collins cleared the bases with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The lineup turned over as Fermín drew a walk and stole second base. Prieto reached via an error and Collins scored. Saggese drove in Fermín on a single. Memphis led 8-2.

In the top of the second, Buffalo posted a third run. Memphis responded in the bottom of the inning with two more scores to lead 10-3. Helman doubled. Ryan Vilade reached via an error and Helman came home. Matt Lloyd plated Vilade on a double.
The Redbirds increased the lead to 11-3 in the fourth. Collins singled and came home on a double by Prieto. In the fifth, Memphis added another run to lead 12-3. Helman doubled and crossed the plate on a double by Vilade.
The Redbirds scored two more times in the seventh. Barrero walked and Helman reached via an error. Later they came home on a single by Collins as the score increased to 14-3.
The 15th and final run came in the eighth on a solo home run by Yohel Pozo.
The Redbirds plated 15 runs on 15 hits. Collins was 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. Helman was 3-for-6 including two doubles with an RBI and four runs scored. Barrero was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Prieto was 2-for-6 with an RBI.
Fermín stole his second base of the season.
The Redbirds are 3-2 in 2025.
