The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-0 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, 1B Luken Baker, went 3-for-4 including a three-run home run in Memphis’ road win. Other standouts include Thomas Saggese, José Fermín, and Sem Robberse.

Dodging the rain, the Memphis Redbirds defeated the Indianapolis Indians (PIT) by a 7-2 score at Victory Field on Tuesday. Sem Robberse pitched five innings, gave up one run (a solo shot) on two hits, struck out four and walked two to win his first start of the season.
Kyle Leahy threw two scoreless innings of relief. Chris Roycroft followed with a scoreless eighth. Wilking Rodriguez started the ninth but surrendered one run before coming out in favor of Ryan Loutos. Loutos secured the final two outs of the game and earned his first save of the season.
The Redbirds went up early, scoring two runs in the first inning. José Fermín and Thomas Saggese singled. Left fielder Lars Nootbaar, opening his rehab assignment from St. Louis, grounded into a force out that scored Fermín. Luken Baker doubled. Nootbaar came home on a ground out by Jared Young.
The Indians got on the board in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1. In the eighth, Memphis made it 3-1 on walks to Baker and Young and a single by César Prieto.
The Redbirds pulled away with four runs in the top of the ninth. Fermín doubled and scored on a double by Saggese. Baker hit a three-run long ball to widen the lead to 7-1.

Indianapolis scored one in the home half of the ninth for the final score of 7-2.
Baker was 3-for-4 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored. With his first hits of the season, Saggese was 2-for-5 with an RBI but also fanned three times. Fermín was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Nootbaar went 0-for-3 with a run driven in and a run scored.
On the base paths, Matt Koperniak was picked off and caught stealing.
Memphis is 3-1 on the young season.
