The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-2 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach RF Yordalin Peña, was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Other standouts include Michael McGreevy, Ryan Vilade, Matt Lloyd and José Fermín.

The Triple-A Redbirds beat the Tides in Norfolk by the score of 8-3 on Tuesday.
Starter Michael McGreevy pitched six innings, gave up one run on six hits and fanned five to earn his third win.
Chris Roycroft relieved McGreevy and threw a scoreless seventh. Curtis Taylor surrendered two runs in the eighth. Ryan Shreve tossed a scoreless ninth.
Memphis put five runs on the board in the fourth inning. Jimmy Crooks led off with a solo home run to left center field. Ryan Vilade and César Prieto singled. Gavin Collins was hit by a pitch. Matt Lloyd drove in Vilade and Prieto on a double. José Fermín plated Collins and Lloyd on a single.

The Redbirds increased the lead to 8-0 in the fifth. Jose Barrero singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. Crooks drew a walk. Vilade hit a three-run home run to left center field.

Norfolk responded with one run in the sixth and two runs in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-3.
Memphis scored eight runs on 13 hits. Vilade was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Lloyd was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Fermín was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Barrero was 2-for-4.
On the bases, Barrero stole his fifth base of the season. Fermín was caught stealing.
The Redbirds are 10-9 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: at Norfolk, Alex Cornwell LHP (1-1, 12.15) vs. Raul Alcantara LHP (0-1, 3.86) 5:35 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals were massacred by the Wind Surge in a 12-1 laugher in Wichita on Tuesday.
Springfield starter Brycen Mautz pitched four innings, gave up one run on three hits and fanned six.

The Cardinals bullpen pitched badly and was responsible for the walloping the team took. Jack Ralston took the loss but was not the major culprit. Ralston surrendered two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Luis Gastelum hurled 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Edwin Nuñez coughed up six runs in just 1/3 of an inning. Nathanael Heredia finished the slaughter by yielding three more runs before securing the final two outs of the eighth.
Springfield scored their only run in the top of the fourth inning. Nathan Church doubled and later came home on a double by Jeremy Rivas.
Wichita tied the game in the home fourth. The Wind Surge added two runs in the sixth and then beat up on the Springfield bullpen in the eighth for nine more runs.
The offense scored one run on seven hits. Chase Davis was 2-for-4. The offense was 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Davis stole his first base. On defense, Rivas made a throwing error, and Nuñez made an error on a pickoff. Leonardo Bernal had a passed ball.
Springfield is 8-8 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: at Wichita, Ixan Henderson LHP (2-0, .090) vs. TBS (WCH) 11:05 am CT.
The High-A Chiefs were pounded by the River Bandits in a 10-3 road loss on Tuesday. Starter Darlin Saladin pitched three innings, gave up seven runs on 10 hits, struck out three and walked three. Saladin took the loss.
Michael Watson relieved Saladin and threw two hitless, scoreless innings. Tyler Bradt surrendered two runs, one earned, in 1 1/3 innings. Ricardo Velez yielded one unearned run in the final 1 2/3 innings.
Quad Cities took the lead 1-0 in the second inning, then increased the lead to 4-0 in the second.
In the top of the fourth, Peoria cut the lead to 4-3. Jon Jon Gazdar drew a walk. Ryan Campos singled. Gazdar and Campos advanced on a wild pitch. Joshua Baez drove in Gazdar on a single. Won-Bin Cho plated Campos on a double. Baez scored on a sac fly by Miguel Villarroel.

The River Bandits added to their lead with three runs in the home fourth. In the sixth, seventh and eighth, Quad Cities posted one run each for the final tally of 10 runs.
Peoria scored three runs on five hits. No Chief had multiple hits. Cho’s double was the only extra base hit.
On the bases, Gazdar was picked off first. Peoria had a rough game on defense, as Curialle, Villarroel and Campos made throwing errors. Saladin committed an error on a pickoff. Baez had an outfield assist at second base.
Peoria is 4-11 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: at Quad Cities, Gerardo Salas RHP (0-2, 9.28) vs. Drew Beam RHP (1-0, 3.77) 11:00 am CT.
As the road team, the Class-A Cardinals defeated the Hammerheads by a 7-5 score at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday. Starter Leonel Sequera pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed three hits, fanned five and walked one.
Jack Findlay relieved Sequera and surrendered two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Joseph King yielded one run in 1 1/3 innings and received the win. Angel Cuenca allowed two runs in the final 1 2/3 innings for his first save.
The Beach Birds went up 2-0 in the third inning. Travis Honeyman doubled and scored on a single by Cade McGee. McGee stole second base and came home on a single by Josh Kross.
Jupiter tied the game with two runs in the sixth. In the top of the eighth, Palm Beach took the lead 4-2. Jonathan Mejia and Luis Pino singled. Sammy Hernandez executed a sacrifice bunt. Deniel Ortiz plated Peña on a sac fly. Anyelo Encarnacion drove in Pino on a double.
The Hammerheads came back with a run in the home half of the inning to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Cardinals put up three runs in the top of the ninth to widen the lead to 7-3. Honeyman singled. McGee drew a walk. Kross grounded into a force out, eliminating McGee. Peña followed with a three-run home run to left center field.
Jupiter partially rallied with two runs in the bottom of the ninth to shrink the final score to 7-5.
Palm Beach scored seven runs on 11 hits. Peña was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Honeyman was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
On the bases, McGee and Ortiz both stole their fifth bases of the season. Peña was caught stealing. On defense, Sequera picked a runner off first base.
Palm Beach is 10-6 on the season.
Wednesday’s game: at Jupiter, RHP Jason Savacool (1-1, 1.93) vs. TBD 5:30 CT.
