The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-2 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day Brycen Mautz pitched six perfect innings with 11 strikeouts in Palm Beach’s loss. Other standouts include Tres Barrera and Victor Scott II.
Results for games played on Wednesday, April 19.
The Redbirds blew past the Indians in a 12-7 contest at AutoZone Park on Wednesday. It was Memphis’ ninth consecutive win. Starter Dakota Hudson pitched only 2 2/3 innings, gave up six runs on eight hits, struck out one and walked one.
Andrew Suarez relieved and threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Kodi Whitley surrendered one run in 2 2/3 innings. Guillermo Zuniga tossed a scoreless ninth. Suarez earned the win, his third of the season.
Memphis put up four runs in the first inning on a grand slam by Tres Barrera, the first for the team in 2023. The Redbirds added to the lead with five runs in the second on RBI singles by Moises Gomez and Paul DeJong, and a three-run home run from Luken Baker.

Indianapolis came back with six runs in the top of the third to decrease the lead to 9-6. Memphis responded in the home half of the third with a two-run long ball by Justin Toerner to increase the lead to 11-6.
The next three innings were scoreless on both sides. In the top of the seventh, the Indians added a run. The Redbirds responded with an additional score in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Barrera.
Barrera went 2-for-5 with five RBI. Baker had three RBI and Toerner drove in two. Chase Pinder was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. DeJong was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.
In the field, Moises Gomez had an outfield assist at second base.
Memphis is 12-5 on the season.
Thursday’s game: vs. Indianapolis, LHP Connor Thomas (1-1, 8.16) vs. TBA 6:45 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals were edged by the RockHounds in a Wednesday contest at Hammons Field. Adam Wainwright, pitching on a rehab assignment, started for Springfield. The right hander pitched three innings, gave up two runs on four hits and struck out three.
Jose Martinez surrendered three runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Ryan Shreve followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Andre Granillo relinquished three runs in the final two innings and took the loss.
The RockHounds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Cardinals answered with three runs in the home half of the inning. Irving Lopez and Jacob Buchberger singled. Mike Antico was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Arquimedes Gamboa plated Lopez on a force out. Matt Koperniak reached on a fielder’s choice and Buchberger was thrown out at home. Pedro Pages followed with a double to score Gamboa and Koperniak.

Springfield added to the lead on a two-run home run by Chandler Redmond in the fifth. Midland tied it at 5-5 in the top of the sixth and the Cardinals answered with one more run in the bottom of the sixth on a single by Pages.
In the top of the ninth, the RockHounds scored three more runs. Springfield managed just one additional run in the bottom frame on a double by Lopez.
Pages was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Lopez was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Redmond drove in two.
On the base paths, Gamboa stole his second base of the season.
Springfield is 4-7 on the season.
Thursday’s game: vs. Midland, RHP Michael McGreevy (1-0, 0.77) vs. RHP Joey Estes (0-0, 2.00) 6:35 CT.
The Chiefs defeated the TinCaps in a 6-3 contest at Dozer Park on Wednesday. Starting in injured Tink Hence’s spot, Alex Cornwell pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up three runs on six hits and struck out four. Cornwell earned his second win of the season.
Ian Bedell relieved and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Matt Hickey tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings and earned his second save.
Peoria got on the board first with one run that began with a Victor Scott II single. Scott II stole second base and advanced to third on a fly out. Scott II scored on a sac fly by Jeremy Rivas.
In the fifth, the Chiefs added three runs on RBI singles by Nathan Church and Thomas Francisco plus a balk.
Fort Wayne cut the lead to 4-3 with three in the top of the sixth. Peoria scored one run in the home half of the inning on a Scott II double. The Chiefs added a run in the seventh on a sac fly by Francisco.
Scott II was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jimmy Crooks III was 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Francisco drove in two.
On the base paths, Scott II stole two bases. Francisco Hernandez swiped his second bag of the season. Church was caught stealing.
In the field, Osvaldo Tovalin made a fielding error.
Peoria is 4-7 on the season.
Thursday’s game: vs. Fort Wayne, Cooper Hjerpe LHP (0-1, 9.00) vs. Jairo Iriarte RHP (0-1, 4.50) 6:35 CT.
The Cardinals were blanked by the Blue Jays in a 1-0 contest at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday. Starter Brycen Mautz pitched six perfect innings, with no runs, no hits, no walks, and 11 punchouts.
Springfield rehabber Michael Brettell surrendered one run in two innings of relief. John Lynch tossed a scoreless ninth. Brettell took the loss.
The game was scoreless until the seventh inning when Dunedin finally broke through with the only run of the evening.
The Beach Birds offense managed just two hits, both singles, from Michael Curialle and Leonardo Bernal.
The offense was 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.
On the base paths, Curialle was picked off and caught stealing.
Palm Beach is 6-5 on the season.
