Cardinals Minor League Notebook – April 19, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 0-4 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis left-hander Pete Hansen, pitched four scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his Triple-A debut. Other standouts include Blaze Jordan, Graysen Tarlow, Ryan Campos, Brandt Thompson and Rainiel Rodriguez.

Memphis Redbirds 1, Gwinnett Stripers 2 (11 innings)

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds dropped a nail-biter in extra innings to the Gwinnett Stripers at AutoZone Park on Saturday.

In his return from the injured list, Pete Hansen started for the Redbirds in his Triple-A debut. The left-hander pitched four scoreless innings on four hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

Matt Pushard recorded two outs in relief of Hansen without allowing a run, as the Rule 5 pick works to rejoin the big league club. Skylar Hales followed with 1 ⅓ shutout frames. Ian Bedell struck out two and allowed an earned run across two innings. Tink Hence tossed a scoreless ninth inning. Jared Shuster yielded an unearned run and fanned three over the 10th and 11th innings and took the tough loss.

The Stripers scored the first run of the game in the top of the seventh inning.

Memphis tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Joshua Báez walked and stole second base. Jimmy Crooks walked. Blaze Jordan lined a single to score Báez and tie the game at one, with Crooks out at second via a rundown and Jordan safe at second.

The game remained tied at one apiece to force extra innings. Gwinnett regained the lead with a run in the top of the 11th to move ahead 2-1. The Stripers struck out the side in the 11th for the win.

The Redbirds scored one run on five hits. Jordan was 2-for-5 with the lone Redbirds RBI. Báez doubled and scored. Ramon Mendoza was 2-for-3 including a double plus a walk. The Redbirds stranded 11 runners on base and were just 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

On the bases, Báez swiped two bags to increase his season total to five.

Defensively, catcher Crooks made a throwing error.

Memphis is 13-7 on the season. They will look to secure the series split with Gwinnett on Sunday.

Springfield Cardinals 3 at Wichita Wind Surge 6

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals fell to the Wind Surge in Wichita on Saturday.

Chen-Wei Lin started his second game of the season for Springfield. The right-hander threw 3 ⅓ innings and allowed five runs on four hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. Lin took the loss.

Darlin Saladin finished the fourth inning and did not give up a run in relief of Lin. Brandt Thompson fired three shutout frames with three strikeouts. Austin Love tossed a shutout eighth frame.

The Wind Surge plated a run in the second inning and added four in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Springfield moved to within three with a two-run seventh. Travis Honeyman hit a leadoff single. Graysen Tarlow smashed his first Double-A home run, a two-run shot, to bring the Cardinals closer at 5-2. Noah Mendlinger was hit by a pitch and Jon Jon Gazdar singled, but a double play halted the rally.

Wichita scored a run in the home seventh to move ahead 6-2.

Springfield grabbed the run back in the eighth as Ryan Campos hit his first home run at the Double-A level, a solo shot.

The Cardinals were unable to rally further in the loss.

Springfield scored three runs on nine hits. Tarlow drove in two runs on a home run. Campos was 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Honeyman singled twice and scored. Gazdar collected two hits. Trey Paige doubled. The lineup drew just two walks and struck out 12 times.

On the bases, Honeyman swiped his seventh bag of the campaign.

Defensively, third baseman Mendlinger made a throwing error. Catcher Tarlow was charged with a pickoff error.

Springfield is 5-9 on the season. They will look to salvage a second win in Sunday’s finale of the six-game road series.

Peoria Chiefs 7 at Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8

The High-A Peoria Chiefs were walked-off by the Timber Rattlers in Wisconsin on Saturday.

Blake Aita made his third start for Peoria. The right-hander pitched 3 ⅔ innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits, four walks and five strikeouts.

Zack Showalter yielded a run across 1 ⅓ innings in relief of Aita. Bobby Olsen followed and surrendered three runs over two innings. Jason Savacool fired a scoreless eighth inning. Left-hander Jack Findlay allowed two runs, one earned, in the bottom of the ninth and was charged with a blown save and the walk-off loss.

Wisconsin scored a run apiece in the second and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead.

Peoria tied the game in the top of the fourth. Jalin Flores walked and Josh Kross singled. José Suárez reached on a missed catcher error from the first baseman to load the bases. Ian Petrutz drew a bases-loaded walk to force Flores home and put the Chiefs in the run column. Tai Peete reached base on a missed catch error to bring Kross home and tie the game at two.

Wisconsin regained the lead with a run in the home fifth.

Peoria tied the game once more in the sixth. Suárez hit a ground ball single and advanced to second and third on two balks. Rainiel Rodriguez lined a sharp single to plate Suárez and tie the game at three.

The Timber Rattlers took their third lead of the game with a run in the sixth and a pair of runs in the seventh to jump ahead 6-3.

The Chiefs responded with a four-run top of the eighth inning to grab their first lead of the night. Petrutz was hit by a pitch and took second on a wild pitch. Peete walked and Rodriguez was plunked to load the bases with no outs. Jesús Báez blooped a single to score Petrutz and keep the bags loaded as the score moved to 6-4.

With Flores batting, Báez moved to second, Rodriguez took third, and Peete crossed home plate on a balk to bring the Chiefs within a run at 6-5.

Flores brought Rodriguez home with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at six, with Báez to third base on the play.

Kross drove Báez home on a second consecutive sacrifice fly to give Peoria a 7-6 lead.

Wisconsin rallied for two runs in the ninth against Findlay to win in an 8-7 walk-off. 

The Chiefs scored seven runs on just four hits, all singles. Báez was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Rodriguez walked, singled, and drove in a run. Kross singled, scored a run, and tallied an RBI. Flores drew three walks, scored a run, and notched an RBI. Petrutz walked twice, drove in a run, and scored a run.

The Chiefs did not steal a base.

On defense, first baseman Kross committed a fielding error. Second baseman Cade McGee made a throwing error. Pitcher Aita picked a runner off second base.

Peoria is 4-9 on the season. In Sunday’s series finale on Sunday, the Chiefs look for their second win in the five-game set.

Palm Beach Cardinals 1, Jupiter Hammerheads 8

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals fell to the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday.

Jacob Odle started his first game for Palm Beach in his third appearance overall. The right-hander pitched 4 ⅔ innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Odle took the loss.

Dylan Driessen gave up one run across 1 ⅓ innings in relief of Odle. Robbie Knowles yielded two runs, one earned, across two frames. Jovi Gálvez allowed one run in the ninth inning.

Jupiter took a 5-0 lead with two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings along with a run in the top of the seventh.

Palm Beach chipped into the gap with a run in the home seventh. With two outs, Yordalin Peña lined his third double of 2026. Chase Heath was hit by a pitch. Heath and Peña executed a double steal, with Peña home on the play on a throwing error from the catcher to put the Cardinals on the board at 5-1.

The Hammerheads added two runs in the eighth and a run in the ninth to jump ahead 8-1. Despite walks from Brayden Smith and Heath in the bottom of the ninth, Palm Beach was unable to rally further.

The Cardinals scored one run on four hits. Peña doubled and scored the lone Palm Beach run. Heath and Jack Gurevitch walked and doubled. The lineup went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

On the basepaths, Peña swiped third base for his second steal of the year. Heath stole his third bag.

On defense, third baseman Gurevitch committed both a throwing error and a fielding error. Catcher Birge was charged with an error on catcher’s interference. Peña nailed a runner at second base from left field. The Cardinals turned two double plays in the game.

Palm Beach is 10-4 on the season. Up 3-2 vs. Jupiter, the Cards look to clinch the series victory on Sunday.
