Cardinals Minor League Notebook – April 19, 2023

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 4-0 on Tuesday. TCN’s Players of the Day are Springfield DH Pedro Pages, who was 3-for-3 with five RBI, and Peoria DH Aaron McKeithan, who was 3-for-4 with four RBI. Other standouts were Oscar Mercado and Arquimedes Gamboa.

Memphis 5, Indianapolis 4

The Redbirds topped the Indians with a ninth inning rally by a 5-4 score at AutoZone Park on Tuesday. Matthew Liberatore took the mound for Memphis. The left hander pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up four runs on eight hits, struck out six and walked one.

Jake Walsh relieved Liberatore and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Ryan Loutos tossed the final two scoreless innings to earn the win, his second of the season.

Indianapolis scored first with three runs in the third inning. The Indians added a run in the sixth for a 4-0 lead.

In the seventh, Memphis cut the lead to 4-3. Juan Yepez reached on an error and Ivan Herrera drew a walk. Luken Baker followed with a walk to load the bases. Oscar Mercado reached on an error and Yepez scored. Juniel Querecuto walked, and Herrera scored. Baker came home on a sac fly by Kramer Robertson.

In the ninth, back-to-back solo home runs by Baker and Mercado sent the Redbirds home with a walk off win.

Mercado was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Robertson was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Baker and Querecuto each drove in a run.

Memphis is 11-5 on the season and is riding an eight-game winning streak.

Wednesday’s game:  vs. Indianapolis, RHP Dakota Hudson (1-1, 2.87) vs. LHP Kent Emanuel 12:05 CT.

Springfield 12, Midland 5

The Cardinals pummeled the RockHounds on Tuesday night at Hammons Field. Starter Brandon Komar pitched four scoreless innings, allowed four hits and struck out five.

Edgar Escobar surrendered three runs in two innings of relief. Jack Ralston allowed two runs in 2/3 innings. Nick Trogrlic-Iverson threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Dalton Roach tossed a scoreless ninth. Escobar received the win, his second of the season.

Springfield put up three runs in the first inning on a home run by Pedro Pages, The Cardinal Nation’s 33rd-ranked prospect..

The Cardinals followed the three-run first with a seven run-fourth. Nick Raposo doubled. Irving Lopez followed with a single. Mike Antico doubled to score Raposo. Arquimedes Gamboa singled to plate Lopez and Antico. Matt Koperniak singled. Gamboa scored on a sac fly by Pages. Koperniak scored on a single by Chandler Redmond. L.J. Jones hit a two-run home run to make it 10-0.

Springfield added two more runs in the fifth on a single by Pages and a force out from Redmond. The Cardinals led 12-0.

Midland got back in the game, scoring three runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh, but that was all the RockHounds could manage.

Pages was 3-for-3 with five RBI. Gamboa was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Jones was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Koperniak was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Raposo was 2-for-4. Redmond drove in two.

Springfield is 4-6 on the season.

Wednesday’s game:  vs. Midland, RHP Adam Wainwright (MLB Rehab) vs. RHP J.T. Ginn 12:05 CT.

Peoria 8, Fort Wayne 5

The Chiefs defeated the Tin Caps in an 8-5 contest on Tuesday at Dozer Park. Zane Mills started for Peoria. The right-hander pitched five innings, gave up five runs on six hits, struck out six and walked one to earn his first win of the season.

Bryan Pope threw two scoreless innings of relief. Chris Roycroft and Andrew Marrero each tossed a scoreless inning. Marrero earned his second save.

The Chiefs went up 4-0 in the first inning. Victor Scott II drew a walk and stole second base. Jeremy Rivas walked. Jimmy Crooks III singled and scored Scott II. Crooks III stole second base. Aaron McKeithan then blasted a three-run home run to left.

Peoria added a run to their total in the second on a sac fly by Rivas. Fort Wayne scored four in the top of the third to cut the lead to 5-4. In the bottom of the third McKeithan hit his second long ball, a solo shot, to make it 6-4.

The Tin Caps once again made it a one run game in the fifth. In the eighth, the Chiefs added two insurance runs on a double by Francisco Hernandez.

McKeithan was 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs score. Hernandez was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

On the base paths, Scott II stole two bases. Crooks II and Osvaldo Tovalin each stole a base.

Peoria is 3-7 on the season.

Wednesday’s game:  vs. Fort Wayne, Alex Cornwell LHP (1-0, 2.57) vs. Garrett Hawkins RHP (0-1, 3.00) 6:35 CT.

Palm Beach 4, Dunedin 3

The Cardinals edged the Blue Jays in a 4-3 contest at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday. Starter Joseph King pitched four innings, gave up three runs on five hits, struck out three and walked two.

Cade Winquest relieved King and threw three scoreless innings. Winquest got the win. Edwin Nunez tossed the final two scoreless innings to earn his first save.

Palm Beach got on the board first with one run in the third inning on a solo home run by Won-Bin Cho. Dunedin answered with three runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.

In the sixth, the Beach Birds cut the lead to 3-2. Michael Curialle led off with a double. R.J. Yeager singled to plate Curialle. The Cardinals took the lead in the seventh with two runs on a solo home run by Alex ladisernia and an RBI double by Curialle.

Curialle was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Tre Fletcher was 3-for-4. Cho, Yeager, and ladisernia each had an RBI.

On the base paths, Cho stole his sixth base of the season. Fletcher was caught stealing for the first time. In the field, Brandon Hernandez and Leonardo Bernal each made a throwing error. Cho had an outfield assist at second base.

By winning their last five in a row, Palm Beach is 6-4 on the season.

Wednesday’s game:  vs. Dunedin, LHP Brycen Mautz (1-0, 3.00) vs. TBA 5:30 CT.
