The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-4 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day Ian Bedell pitched four scoreless relief innings in Springfield’s win. Other standouts include Adam Kloffenstein, Alex Cornwell, Osvaldo Tovalin, Zane Mills and Sammy Hernandez.

The Memphis Redbirds lost to the Flying Tigers in a one-run pitcher’s duel on Wednesday. Starter Adam Kloffenstein pitched six innings, gave up one run on two hits, struck out five and walked five.
Gwinnett went up 1-0 in the first inning. The Redbirds tied the game in the fifth. Nick Raposo doubled and later scored on a sac fly by Mike Antico.
Kyle Leahy relieved and surrendered one run in the seventh. Leahy took the loss. John King tossed a scoreless eighth.
Memphis scored one run on four hits. José Fermín was 2-for-4. No other Redbird had multiple hits.
On the base paths, Fermín stole his fifth base of the season. Thomas Saggese swiped his third bag.
In the field, Raposo made a throwing error.
Memphis is 7-10 on the season.
Thursday’s game: at Gwinnett, RHP Gordon Graceffo (1-2, 5.68) vs. Dylan Dodd LHP (2-0, 3.86) 6:05 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals beat the Sod Poodles by a 5-1 score in Amarillo on Wednesday.
Starter Alex Cornwell pitched five innings, gave up one run on five hits, struck out five and walked two. The left-hander earned his first win of the season.
Ian Bedell relieved Cornwell and threw four scoreless innings to earn his first save. The right-hander allowed one hit, walked two and fanned six.

Amarillo scored first with a run in the third inning. Springfield took a 4-1 lead in the fifth. Matt Lloyd and Aaron McKeithan singled. Ramon Mendoza grounded into a force out and Lloyd was out at third. Jacob Buchberger doubled to plate McKeithan. Mendoza came home on a single by Jeremy Rivas. Chris Rotondo singled and Buchberger scored. Nathan Church plated Rivas on a single.
The Cardinals added a fifth run in the seventh. Rotondo reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch.
Buchberger and Rivas each were 2-for-4 with an RBI.
On the base paths, Buchberger stole his third base of the season.
Springfield is 10-1 on the season.

Peoria at 2 Quad Cities 7 (seven innings, Game 1)
The Peoria Chiefs fell to the River Bandits in the first game of a twin bill in Davenport on Wednesday. Starter Inohan Paniagua pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up six runs, seven earned, on seven hits, struck out four and walked two. Paniagua took the loss.
Tyler Bradt threw 2/3 of a scoreless inning of relief. Dionys Rodriguez tossed a scoreless sixth.
The Chiefs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Won-Bin Cho was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Dakota Harris. Cho was driven in on a single by Leonardo Bernal.
Quad Cities scored two runs in the third and added two more in the fourth to increase the lead to 4-1.
Peoria made it 4-2 in the top of the fifth. Anyelo Encarnacion doubled and came home on Cho’s double.

The River Bandits answered with three more runs in the home fifth to widen the lead to 7-2.
Peoria scored two runs on six hits. No Chief had multiple hits. Cho and Bernal each had an RBI. The offense was 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Cho was picked off second base. Paniagua made an error on a pickoff.
Peoria 3 at Quad Cities 6 (seven innings, Game 2)
The Chiefs again fell to the River Bandits in the second game of the twin bill. Starter Brycen Mautz pitched four innings, gave up six runs on nine hits and struck out six. Mautz suffered his second loss of the season.
Zane Mills tossed the final two scoreless innings of relief. The right-hander retired all six batters faced, three by strikeout.
Quad Cities took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Peoria tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Brody Moore singled and scored on a double by Osvaldo Tovalin.

The River Bandits quickly broke the tie with five runs in the home fourth. The Chiefs added a run in the fifth to make it 6-2. Carlos Linarez, Won-Bin Cho and Zach Levenson walked to load the bases. Linarez scored when William Sullivan was hit by a pitch.
Peoria scored their final run in the sixth. Tovalin walked. Darlin Moquete doubled, moving Tovalin to third. Tovalin came home on a wild pitch.
Tovalin was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Moore was 2-for-4. Moquete was 2-for-3.
Levenson stole his third base of the season. Moquete had an outfield assist at home plate.
Peoria is 5-6 on the season.
Thursday’s game: at Quad Cities, Cooper Hjerpe LHP (0-0, 9.82) vs. Ben Kudrna RHP (1-1, 1.86) 6:30 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals were edged by the Flying Tigers in a 7-6 contest at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday. In his first career start, left-hander Ixan Henderson pitched three innings, gave up four runs on eight hits, struck out six and walked one. Henderson took the loss.

Darlin Saladin surrendered three runs in 4 1/3 innings of relief. Ettore Guilianelli tossed the final 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Lakeland scored two runs each in the second and third innings. They added a run in the sixth to increase the lead to 5-0.
The Beach Birds finally got on the board in the seventh, cutting the lead to 5-2. Lizandro Espinoza tripled. Trey Paige drew a walk. Espinoza came home on a wild pitch and Paige advanced to second. Paige scored on a single by Adari Grant.
The Flying Tigers took the two runs right back in the top of the eighth to lead 7-2. Palm Beach added four runs in the home eighth to pull to within one run at 7-6. Kade Kretzschmar was hit by a pitch. Ross Friedrick singled. Miguel Villarroel singled and Kretzschmar scored. Friedrick came home on a throwing error. Espinoza plated Villarroel on a sac fly. Maikel Hernandez doubled and later crossed the plate on a single by Sammy Hernandez.
Hernandez was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Paige was 2-for-2. Villarroel, Espinoza and Grant each had an RBI.
On the base paths, Chase Davis was caught stealing. In the field, Grant made a fielding error.
Palm Beach is 7-4 on the season.
Thursday’s game: vs. Lakeland, RHP Jason Savacool (0-0, 2.25) vs. TBD 5:30 CT.
