Cardinals Minor League Notebook – April 11, 2024

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-1 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach 1B Ross Friedrick, was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Other standouts include Chase Davis, Anyelo Encarnacion, Darlin Saladin and Ixan Henderson.

Memphis vs. Nashville (postponed)

Wednesday’s home game between Memphis and Nashville was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up a part of a doubleheader on Friday, April 12.

Thursday’s game:  vs. Nashville, (Wednesday’s pitchers starting) RHP Michael McGreevy (0-1, 7.00) vs. Evan McKendry RHP (0-1, 4.22) 6:45 CT

Springfield vs. Wichita (postponed)

Wednesday’s home game between Springfield and Wichita was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, April 12.

Thursday’s game: vs. Wichita, (Wednesday’s pitchers starting) Alex Cornwell LHP, (0-0, 0.00) vs. Jarret Whorff RHP (0-0, 0.00) 6:35 CT.

Peoria 1, Beloit 2

The Peoria Chiefs fell to the Sky Carp by one run at Dozer Park on Wednesday. Starter Brycen Mautz pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up two runs on five hits, struck out six and walked three. Mautz took the loss, his first of the season.

Nathanael Heredia threw two scoreless innings of relief. Wilfredo Pereira tossed the final 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

Beloit went up 1-0 in the third inning, then added a second run in the fourth. Peoria scored their only run in the home fourth. Michael Curialle walked and came home on a double by Anyelo Encarnacion.

The Chiefs scored one run on five hits. Encarnacion was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Zach Levenson and Dakota Harris each stole a base. It was the second for Levenson and the first for Harris.

Peoria is 2-3 on the season.

Thursday’s game:  vs. Beloit, Cooper Hjerpe LHP (0-0, 13.50) vs. TBD (BEL) 6:35 CT.

Palm Beach 5 at Daytona 3

The Palm Beach Cardinals defeated the Tortugas in a 5-3 road win on Wednesday. Starter Darlin Saladin pitched five innings, gave up two runs on six hits, struck out six and walked one to earn his first win of the season.

Ixan Henderson surrendered one run in the final four innings of relief and received the save, his first.

The Beach Birds scored first with two runs in the top of the second. Jose Cordoba singled and advanced to second on a throwing error. Ross Friedrick followed with a two-run home run. Daytona tied the game in the home half of the second.

Palm Beach went up 4-2 in the fifth. Adari Grant was hit by a pitch. Chase Davis doubled to plate Grant. Kade Kretzschmar drew a walk. Cordoba was hit by a pitch and Davis scored.

The Tortugas cut the lead to 4-3 in the seventh. In the eighth, Friedrick singled and later was driven in by a single by Brayden Jobert to give the Cardinals the 5-3 lead.

Palm Beach scored five runs on seven hits. Friedrick was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Davis was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

On the base paths, Jobert stole his first base. In the field, Grant and Maikel Hernandez each made a throwing error.

Palm Beach is 4-1 on the season.

Thursday’s game:  at Daytona, RHP Jason Savacool (system debut) vs. TBD 5:35 CT.
