The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-2 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield shortstop JJ Wetherholt, had his first hits of the season, a double and two singles with three RBI. Other standouts include Carlos Linarez, Ramon Mendoza and Christian Martin.

The Memphis Redbirds were shut out by the Nashville Sounds for the second consecutive game. Starter Sem Robberse pitched four innings, gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits, fanned four and walked four. Robberse took the loss.
Michael Gomez threw two scoreless innings of relief. Matt Svanson tossed the final two scoreless frames.
Nashville scored one run in the first and two runs in the third. 3-0 was the final score.
Memphis was no-hit until César Prieto led off the eighth with a triple to right field. The next three batters were unable to get Prieto home from third. The triple was Memphis’ only hit of the evening.
On the bases, Jose Barrero was caught stealing. On defense, Prieto made a missed catch error.
The Redbirds are 5-4 on the season.
Thursday’s game: at Nashville, Michael McGreevy RHP (1-1, 4.00) vs. Jacob Misiorowski RHP (1-0, 0.00) 6:35 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals edged the Sod Poodles in a 10-9 slugfest on Wednesday.
In his Texas League debut, Springfield starter Brycen Mautz pitched three innings, gave up three runs on three hits, struck out four and walked three.

Nathanael Heredia relieved Mautz and surrendered three runs in two innings of relief. Jack Ralston threw two scoreless frames. Leonardo Taveras yielded three runs in 1 2/3 innings but earned the win. Austin Love secured the final out of the ninth for his first save.
Springfield scored two runs in the first inning. Chase Davis was hit by a pitch. JJ Wetherholt singled for his first Double-A hit. Dakota Harris ground into a force out. Wetherholt was out at second and Davis scored. Jeremy Rivas singled to plate Harris.
The Cardinals added a run in the second to lead 3-0. Davis doubled and scored on a Wetherholt double. They made it 4-0 in the top of the fourth. Carlos Linarez and Davis singled. Linarez came home on a sac fly by Wetherholt.
Amarillo came roaring back in the home half of the fourth, putting up six runs to take the lead. Springfield made it a one run game in the sixth. Ramon Mendoza and Linarez singled. Davis ground into a force out advancing Mendoza to third. Wetherholt drove in Mendoza on a single.

The Cardinals regained the lead with a three-run seventh. R.J. Yeager reached on an error. Noah Mendlinger singled. Jacob Buchberger grounded into a force out. Mendlinger was out at second and Yeager moved to third. Mendoza tripled to scored Yeager and Buchberger. Mendoza came home on a Linarez single.

The Sod Poodles answered with three runs in the eighth to lead 9-8. Springfield put up two runs in the ninth to go ahead 10-9. Rivas singled. Buchberger and Mendoza walked. Linarez plated Rivas on a single. Buchberger scored on a sac fly by Davis.

The Cardinals scored 10 runs on 14 hits. Wetherholt was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Linarez was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Mendoza was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Rivas was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Davis was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Rivas stole his first base of the season. On defense, Linarez made a throwing error. Ralston picked a runner off first base.
Springfield is 4-1 on the season.

Peoria at South Bend (postponed)
This game was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up as the opener of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12.
Peoria is 0-4 on the season.

The Palm Beach Cardinals were clobbered by the Marauders by a 12-6 score on Wednesday. In his first start, Brandt Thompson pitched four innings, gave up three unearned runs on five hits and fanned five.
Christian Worley surrendered two runs in two innings of relief. Michael Watson yielded seven runs in 1 2/3 innings and took the loss. Randel Clemente secured the final out of the eighth.
The Beach Birds went up 4-0 in the third inning. Anyelo Encarnacion singled. Deniel Ortiz and Jonathan Mejia walked. Won-Bin Cho took a third straight free pass to force in Encarnacion. Ortiz came home on a ground out by Josh Kross. Christian Martin plated Mejia and Cho on a single.
Palm Beach increased the lead to 5-0 in the fourth. Encarnacion walked and stole second base. Mejia walked. Cho drove in Encarnacion on a single. Bradenton immediately answered with three runs in the home fourth to cut the lead to 5-3.
The Cardinals added what became their final run of the game in the fifth as Kross doubled and scored on a single by Luis Pino. In the sixth, the Marauders drove in two to shrink Palm Beach’s lead to 6-5.
From there, Bradenton took control, with two in the seventh and five in the eighth to reach the final score of 12-6.
Palm Beach scored six runs on nine hits. Martin was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Pino was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
On the bases, Encarnacion stole his third base of the season. Cade McGee was picked off and caught stealing.
On defense, Martin made a throwing error. Jose Cordoba had an outfield assist at home.
Palm Beach is 3-2 on the season.
