Kevin Herget started it and Adolis Garcia ended it as the Memphis Redbirds took Game 2 of the Pacific Coast League finals over El Paso Thursday afternoon.

Results from the game played Thursday, September 14th.

Memphis 2 vs. El Paso 0 (11 innings)

Adolis Garcia (St. Louis Cardinals)

Adolis Garcia’s home run gave the Redbirds a 2-0 walk-off victory over Chihuahuas in 11.  Memphis (2-0) needs to win just one of its next three games at El Paso to clinch the Pacific Coast League Championship.

Garcia’s bomb came with Aledmys Diaz aboard, after the latter reached on a line drive single to right with one away.  One out later, Garcia came to the plate and launched one into the seats in left center for the win.

The home run was Garcia’s second hit in five at bats.  The right fielder was joined in the multi-hit club by Breyvic Valera, who singled and doubled in four at bats with a walk and strikeout.  Diaz was one of four Memphis players with a hit each.

Rowan Wick picked up the win by fanning his only batter to finish the visitor half of the 11th. Sean Gilmartin began the frame by inducing two fly outs to left before giving up a single to right. That brought Wick in to face Hunter Renfroe, El Paso’s cleanup hitter.

Starter Kevin Herget was outstanding, striking out 15 over eight shutout frames while permitting five hits and a walk.  Herget picked off one of his base runners when the latter strayed too far from second base.

Mike Mayers pitched the ninth and 10th innings, issuing a free pass with one gone in the ninth and a one-out single the next frame.  Mayers fanned the side in the 10th, when collecting three of his four strikeouts.

Friday’s game:  at El Paso (0-2) (SD), 8:05 pm CT, Ryan Helsley (0-0, —)
