The St. Louis Cardinals announced today (Monday, March 25) a series of roster moves to get to 25 players on their active roster.
Following tonight’s game in Memphis, the Cardinals optioned left-handed pitcher Tyler Webb to the Memphis (AAA) roster and re-assigned the following seven players to the minor leagues: RHP Chris Beck, LHP Tommy Layne, catchers Andrew Knizner and Francisco Peña, infielders Tommy Edman and Rangel Ravelo and outfielder Dylan Carlson.

Zero surprises here. These moves had been telegraphed when the members of St. Louis’ Opening Day 25-man roster were disclosed and these players were not among them.
Of the group, Edman performed most admirably this spring, with Carlson being my choice as camp Rookie of the Year. Webb was in the battle for the final bullpen spot until the end and should be the first of this group to reach St. Louis during the 2019 season.
Now that the opening roster is “set,” how long until the first change is made? Will it remain the same through the first series? The first road trip?
