The St. Louis Cardinals announced today (Wednesday, March 29) that they have selected the contract of rookie outfielder Jordan Walker and added him to the team’s 40-player Major League roster.
To make room for Walker, the Cardinals announced that left-handed pitcher Anthony Misiewicz has been designated for assignment.
The Cardinals 40-player Major League roster currently stands at 40.

The clearing of a 40-man spot for Walker was the last open end for the Cardinals to set their roster for Opening Day.
There were several possibilities for 40-man roster removal. Considering Misiewicz came in sixth among spring candidates for the two left-handed relief spots in St. Louis’ bullpen, his choice here should not be surprising.
I say sixth because Misiewicz was cut from spring camp before three other lefty pen candidates who also did not make the team. They are 40-man pitchers Genesis Cabrera and JoJo Romero and non-roster invitee Andrew Suarez. The pair on the Opening Day roster are Zack Thompson and Packy Naughton.
Misiewicz, 29, became a Cardinal on February 8 when he was acquired from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations. In the next seven days, he will either be released, traded or will pass through waivers and report to Triple-A Memphis.
