Via two separate social media posts on Monday, July 22, the St. Louis Cardinals formally announced the signing of 14 of their 18 2024 draft picks who have reportedly come to contract terms with the organization. The announcements mean that for these players, all the “I”s have been dotted and all the “T”s have been crossed. These young men are now officially professional baseball players.

Four of the 18 have apparently not completed their physicals and approvals and therefore, have not yet been announced. They are first-round shortstop J.J. Wetherholt, fourth-round catcher Ryan Campos, sixth-round catcher Josh Kross and 17th-round pitcher Brandt Thompson. They should be officially joining the fold soon.

The team’s other draft pick, who is not expected to sign, is 19th round high school shortstop Brendan Lawson.

Tuesday update

On Tuesday mid-day, the Cardinals formalized the Wetherholt signing as well as the additions of Kross and Thompson. Wetherholt has been assigned to the Florida Complex League Cardinals, a team that has just two official games remaining.

That leaves just Campos.

Wednesday update

On Wednesday morning, the organization formally announced Campos’ signing, so the Cardinals are finished with this draft class.
