The Glendale Desert Dogs wasted a five-run fifth inning, as well as a four run lead, by surrendering four runs in the ninth to allow Mesa to secure a walk off win. The Dogs had more chances to pad their earlier lead, but stranded 14 baserunners Sunday evening.

In his AFL debut, Robertson led off for Glendale and played second base. He did his job by reaching base three times and turning one double play. Capel batted third in the lineup while playing left field and Herrera hit eighth and started behind the plate.

Other big games came from first baseman Justin Yurchak (CWS), who tallied three hits, including two doubles while Jose Garcia (CIN) and David Fry (MIL) each collected a pair of hits. On the mound Tyler Johnson (CWS) and Diomar Lopez (CIN) combined to toss three scoreless innings. These were the only two pitchers, besides Roel Ramirez to pitch clean innings.

On the defensive side, Ivan Herrera struggled behind the plate as he allowed two passed balls in the losing effort.

After the league takes Monday off, Glendale will look to get back on track on Tuesday when Gerardo Carrillo (LAD) will take the mound at home at 8:30 CT against Mexicali of the Mexican Pacific League.

Glendale is now 1-4 in the season and in last place in the AFL West.
