The Scottsdale Scorpions were walked off by the Mesa Solar Sox by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Jimmy Crooks was the only Cardinals prospect to appear when he came off the bench and grounded out.

The Scottsdale Scorpions (3-2) were walked off by the Mesa Solar Sox (3-3) on Saturday afternoon at Sloan Park.
Cardinals catcher Jimmy Crooks came off the bench in the seventh inning to relieve Zach Morgan behind the plate. Crooks caught three innings and allowed one stolen base. TCN’s no. 22 prospect hit in the ninth inning but grounded out to second base. At the dish in the early AFL going, Crooks is 1-for-9, .111, with two strikeouts.
Scottsdale was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position with one extra-base hit. Baltimore’s Billy Cook had a walk-off home run in the ninth inning.
The AFL has an off day on Sunday to conclude the first week of the season. The Scorpions are 3-2, in second place two games back of undefeated Peoria, after their first game ended in a draw.
Through Week 1, Jeremy Rivas is 6-for-15 (.400) with a walk. Victor Scott is 5-for-16 (.313) with three walks and three steals.
Out of the bullpen, Andre Granillo and Cooper Hjerpe have two scoreless innings each. Granillo allowed two hits and fanned five. Hjerpe has allowed no hits with three Ks. Both walked one.
In relief, Edwin Nunez was charged with two runs in two innings on two walks and two hits and a hit batter. Inohan Paniagua had a rough two-inning debut, yielding three runs on a walk and three hits, including two home runs. Paniagua struck out two.
Over three innings, starter Tekoah Roby yielded no runs on one hit with three strikeouts.
