The Scottsdale Scorpions beat the Peoria Javelinas on Friday. Three Cardinals played. TCN Player of the Day Inohan Paniagua tossed four scoreless innings and Andre Granillo had a 1-2-3 ninth. Shortstop Jeremy Rivas singled twice, stole a base and scored.

Scottsdale Scorpions 7 at Peoria Javelinas 2
Three Cardinals saw action in Friday’s win at Salt River Fields. Jeremy Rivas was in the starting lineup. Inohan Paniagua and Andre Granillo pitched in relief.
Shortstop Jeremy Rivas hit ninth and went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Rivas grounded out to first base in his first at-bat in the third inning. In the fifth, Rivas singled to left field and stole second base, but was left stranded.
Rivas grounded into a double play in the seventh. He singled to center field, stole second base, and scored a run on a double in the ninth.
Inohan Paniagua pitched four scoreless innings in relief and received the win. He allowed two hits and struck out three. In his first inning, the fifth, Paniagua gave up a single, induced a double play, hit a batter and ended the frame on a fly out to center field. His second inning went single, pop out, and double play.
In his third inning, Paniagua struck out two and induced a fly out to right field. In his final inning, the eighth, he had two ground outs and a strikeout.
Andre Granillo pitched the ninth. He struck out the first batter, induced a ground out to first and finished with a line out to center field.
Scottsdale is 10-6 on the season. The Scorpions are now in first place, one game ahead of Peoria.
Saturday’s game: at Salt River Rafters, Davis Daniel RHP (1-0, 0.90) vs. Dylan Smith RHP (0-1, 6.97) 8:30 CT.
