Cardinals Arizona Fall League Notebook – October 19, 2023

The Scottsdale Scorpions beat the Surprise Saguaros in a walk off on Wednesday. Two Cardinals saw action. TCN Player of the Day, shortstop Jeremy Rivas, walked and drove in the tying run. Pinch runner Victor Scott was thrown out at home.

Two Cardinals saw action in Wednesday night’s home win for Scottsdale. Jeremy Rivas was in the starting lineup. Victor Scott came in as a pinch runner in the ninth inning.

Shortstop Rivas hit eighth. He was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, a walk and an RBI. In his first at-bat in the second inning, Rivas flied out to center. He struck out in the fourth. Rivas again flied out to center in the fifth and again struck out in the seventh. In the ninth, with the bases loaded and one out, Rivas walked to score the tying run.

Victor Scott entered the game in the ninth inning to pinch run for teammate Reggie Crawford, who had walked. With the bases loaded, Scott was thrown out at home on a force out. However, the game still ended in Scottsdale’s favor when the next batter walked, forcing in the winning run.

Scottsdale is 9-5 on the season.

Thursday’s game:  at Surprise Saguaros, Christian McGowan RHP (1-0, 4.00) vs. CJ Van Eyk RHP (1-0, 1.42) 8:30 CT.
