In Friday AFL action, the Glendale Desert Dogs routed the Surprise Saguaros by the score of 10-1. Starter Chen-Wei Lin threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings on one hit, no walks and struck out five. Cardinals Miguel Ugueto, Darlin Saladin and Tyler Bradt also contributed to the win.
Glendale Desert Dogs 10 at Surprise Saguaros 1
The Desert Dogs defeated the Surprise Saguaros in a 10-1 road rout on Friday. Miguel Ugueto played in right field and hit eighth in the lineup. Right-hander Chen-Wei Lin started and right-handers Darlin Saladin and Tyler Bradt pitched out of the bullpen.
Ugueto went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. He grounded into a double play in his first at bat in the second inning. In the fourth, Ugueto singled to left field but was stranded.
Ugueto singled again in the sixth but was caught stealing second. He struck out looking in the eighth.
In the ninth, Ugueto singled for the third time and drove in two runs. He later scored on a bases loaded walk.
Chen-Wei Lin started and pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed one hit and fanned five. In the first inning, he induced a ground out, a fly out and struck out his first batter. In the second, he gave up his only hit, a single to center field. He struck out one and got the final two outs on a ground out and a pop up.
Lin had another 1-2-3 inning in the third with a strikeout, line out and ground out. He began the fourth inning with two strikeouts and was replaced after having thrown 31 strikes in 37 pitches.
Saladin pitched two scoreless innings of relief. He struck out two and walked three but allowed no hits. His first inning went walk, ground out, pop out, strike out swinging. In his second inning, the sequence was strike out on a foul tip, ground out, walk, walk, ground out.
Bradt pitched the ninth inning. He allowed no hits, struck out one and walked one. He started the inning with a strikeout. He walked the second hitter. He ended the inning with a line out and a ground out.
No other Cardinals saw action in the game.
The Desert Dogs are 3-4 on the season.
