The Glendale Desert Dogs lost to the Scottsdale Scorpions in a 13-11 slugfest on Wednesday. Cardinals centerfielder Nathan Church started. The seventh-place hitter went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.

Glendale Desert Dogs 11, Surprise Saguaros 13
The Desert Dogs fell to the Saguaros in a high scoring home loss on Wednesday. One Cardinal saw action. Nathan Church hit in the seventh spot and played in center field for the entire nine innings.
Church went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. The left-handed hitter came to the plate for the first time in the bottom of the second inning and popped out to second base.
In the third, Church flied out to left field and did the same for the third out of the home fifth.
In the seventh, Church hit an RBI fly ball single to left field. He scored on a grand slam by teammate Jake Gelof.
Down by three in the ninth, the Dogs threatened but only scored one. In his final plate appearance, Church singled to right field. He made it to third base before a double play groundout with the bases loaded ended the game.
In the field, Church committed a fielding error that led to a third inning run for Surprise.
No other Cardinals saw action.
Glendale is 5-3 to date as the second week of the AFL season continues.
