Results for the game played on Friday, October 12.
Two Cardinals minor leaguers were in the starting lineup for the Saguaros on Friday, and they contributed to the defeat of the Desert Dogs of Glendale, 4-1.
Outfielder Lane Thomas started in right field and batted fifth for Surprise, and in his first at bat of the game drew a walk and later scored on a single by Memphis teammate Andy Young. Thomas grounded out and struck out in his next two at bats but drew a second walk in his final at bat, going 1-for-2 with one run scored. Thomas also stole his second base of the Fall League in his first at bat, which put him in a position to score on Young’s single.
Young was the starting second baseman for Surprise and the number eight hitter went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Young drove in Thomas in his first at bat, a single in the second inning. The second sacker followed that with a pop out and a strikeout. In his last at bat in the eighth inning, Young doubled to center field then later scored on a single by Surprise teammate Nick Heath, a Kansas City Royals minor leaguer and the Saguaros’ left fielder.
No other Cardinals saw action.
Saturday’s game: No AFL games scheduled. The Bowman Hitting Challenge will take place in Sloan Park at 8:35 p.m. CT. Each of the 30 MLB teams will have one player participating in the modified home run derby, with Andy Young representing St. Louis.
