The Scottsdale Scorpions lost 17-5 to the Surprise Saguaros on Tuesday. Victor Scott went 2-for-4. Jeremy Rivas and Jimmy Crooks also started. Tekoah Roby started and took the loss. Edwin Nunez and Cooper Hjerpe pitched in relief, with Nunez (2 1/3 scoreless innings) our Player of the Day.

Scottsdale Scorpions 5, Surprise Saguaros 17
Six St. Louis Cardinals saw action in Tuesday’s home loss to the Saguaros. Three were in the starting lineup. Three pitchers appeared, one as the starter and two in relief.
Victor Scott hit lead off and played center field. He was 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored, a walk and a strikeout. Scott struck out in the first, singled to left in the third, walked in the sixth, singled in the eighth and scored a run, and flied out to left in the ninth. Scott also made a fielding error.
Catcher Jimmy Crooks hit fifth and was 0-for-2. He was replaced in the bottom of the fifth inning. Crooks grounded into two double plays, one in the second and one in the fourth.
Jeremy Rivas hit eighth in the lineup. The shortstop was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He grounded out to first in the third inning and grounded out to the pitcher in the eighth. Rivas made a fielding error.
Tekoah Roby started but did not complete the first inning. The right-hander pitched 2/3 of an inning, gave up five runs, three earned, on three hits, and walked two. The hits were a double and two singles. Roby also threw two wild pitches.
Edwin Nunez relieved Roby and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed two hits and struck out one. Nunez got the final out of the first on a ground out. His second was a 1-2-3 inning. In the third, Nunez allowed two singles before retiring the next three batters to end his day.
Cooper Hjerpe pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief and gave up one run on three hits, struck out five and walked one. Hjerpe pitched the fourth inning and retired the Saguaros in 1-2-3 fashion. In the fifth, after striking out the first hitter, Hjerpe gave up three consecutive singles, with the last plating a run. After recording a second K and issuing a walk, he was replaced.
Scottsdale is 3-4 on the season.
