The Glendale Desert Dogs bested the Scottsdale Scorpions on Friday. Outfielder Travis Honeyman launched his second AFL home run. Miguel Ugueto doubled and drove in two runs. Graysen Tarlow started behind the plate. Right-hander D.J. Carpenter threw a perfect inning out of the bullpen.

Glendale Desert Dogs 9, Scottsdale Scorpions 3
The Glendale Desert Dogs defeated the Scottsdale Scorpions by the score of 9-3 on Friday. Miguel Ugueto, Travis Honeyman, Graysen Tarlow, and pitcher D.J. Carpenter all saw action in the game.
Ugueto played right field and hit fifth in the lineup. He went 1-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs, and a run scored.
In his first at-bat in the first inning, Ugueto came to the plate with runners at first and second base and doubled to left field to score both runners. He was stranded at second base. In the fourth, he grounded out to the shortstop.
Ugueto struck out swinging in the fifth to end the inning. In the eighth, the right-handed hitter drew a walk and scored on a single.
Ugueto is hitting .328 and has driven in 14 runs in the AFL season.
Honeyman batted seventh and manned left field. He was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run.
In Honeyman’s first at-bat in the second inning, he grounded out to third. In the fourth, he flew out to center field for the final out of the inning.
Honeyman drew a walk in the sixth but was left on base. In the eighth, Honeyman hit a two-run home run to left field in the eighth inning for the seventh and eighth runs of the game for Glendale.
Tarlow was the catcher and batted eighth. He went 0-for-4.
In his first at-bat in the second inning, he grounded out to third. Tarlow popped out to first base in the fifth.
The 24-year-old grounded out to second in the sixth inning and grounded out to third in the eighth.
Carpenter took the mound in the top of the eighth inning with Glendale ahead 5-3.
He retired all three batters he faced on three straight ground outs, one back to Carpenter and two to the shortstop. The 25-year-old was lifted for a new arm in the ninth.
The right-hander threw one scoreless, no-hit inning without a walk or strikeout. He threw just six pitches, four for strikes.
No other Cardinals saw action in the contest.
The Desert Dogs are 10-15 on the season.
Saturday’s game: No game scheduled. Off day prior to the AFL Fall Stars game on Sunday.
