The Scottsdale Scorpions edged the Peoria Javelinas on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day Victor Scott was on base four times, drove in a run, stole two bags and scored twice. Edwin Nunez and Andre Granillo pitched a total of three scoreless relief innings.

Scottsdale Scorpions 10, Peoria Javelinas 9
Three St. Louis Cardinals prospects appeared in the Scorpions’ crucial home win over the Javelinas and all three contributed. Victor Scott hit leadoff. Edwin Nunez and Andre Granillo pitched in relief.
Center fielder Scott was on base four times with two singles and two walks, an RBI and two runs scored. The speedster was 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts. In the first inning Scott drew a walk but was caught stealing. In the third, Scott grounded out to second base. He singled to left field in the fifth and drove in a run. He later scored. Scott singled to right in the sixth but was stranded. Scott drew a walk in the eighth and stole second and third. The latter was part of a double steal with Gabriel Rincones Jr. Later in the frame, the two became the tying and winning runs.
Edwin Nunez pitched two scoreless innings of relief, covering the sixth and seventh. In total, the 21-year-old allowed three hits, struck out one and walked two. In the sixth, Nunez gave up a double and a single with a runner thrown out at home. He struck out one and induced a ground out to second base.
In the seventh, Nunez issued a walk and gave up a single. He got three outs on a fly out and a double play.
Andre Granillo pitched a scoreless ninth inning with one hit allowed and two strikeouts. He gave up a single and threw a wild pitch. The outs came on a fly ball to left and two punch outs. Granillo earned his third AFL save.

Scottsdale is 15-13 on the season and is in second place, 2.5 games back of the Surprise Saguaros. Following their final regular season game on Thursday, the Scorpions will face either Salt River or Peoria in the play-in semi finals on Friday. That winner will meet Surprise in the championship on Saturday.
Wednesday’s game: Scottsdale is off.
Thursday’s game: at Mesa Solar Sox, TBA vs. RHP Tyler Guilfoil, 6:30 p.m. MST
