Cardinals Arizona Fall League Notebook – November 7, 2021

Despite no St. Louis Cardinals prospects appearing for the first time this AFL season, Glendale pounded Salt River Saturday night. A trio of Los Angeles Dodgers picked up the slack offensively.

Results from the Arizona Fall League game held on Saturday, November 6.

Glendale 11, Salt River 2

Behind an eight-run fourth inning, the Glendale Desert Dogs (13-8) clobbered the Salt River Rafters (7-13) by an 11-2 score at home Saturday evening.

For the first time in the Desert Dogs’ 21-game Arizona Fall League schedule to date, no St. Louis Cardinals appeared in the nine-inning contest. Instead, a trio of Los Angeles Dodgers prospects picked up the slack.

Carson Taylor was the hitting star. The third string catcher had two hits in the fateful fourth inning, including a single and a home run that drove in three – and he came around to score both times, too.

Center fielder James Outman only made one out, going 3-for-4, including two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI, and gave an out back to his squad by throwing out a Rafters runner at third base. Shortstop Jacob Amaya, another LA prospect, was 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Six Desert Dogs hurlers took the mound. Starter Johan Dominguez (CHW) pitched three scoreless frames despite yielding six hits. Reliever Zach Linginfelter (2-1) (LAA) picked up the win by virtue of being the pitcher of record in the fourth inning.

By going 6-1 in their last seven games, the Desert Dogs have moved into a first-place tie with Surprise in the West Division.

Sunday’s game: The AFL is off Sundays.
Monday’s game: Glendale at Peoria, starting pitchers TBA, 12:35 p.m. MST
