In Tuesday AFL action, St. Louis Cardinals prospect Juan Yepez singled but was erased on the basepaths in Glendale’s loss. Andre Pallante is scheduled to take the ball for the Desert Dogs on Wednesday afternoon.
Results from the Arizona Fall League game played Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
Glendale never led as Mesa scored two fourth-inning tallies before the Dogs answered with two scores the next frame. It was all Solar Sox in the sixth and seventh with the home team pushing across five unanswered runs. Single tallies by the visitors in the eighth and ninth were not enough to close the gap.
Southpaw Jeff Belge (L, 0-1) (LAD) retired just two sixth-inning batters, yielding three runs on a hit and two walks. Belge was the third of six Glendale hurlers taking the mound, none of whom are St Louis prospects.
Glendale mustered 10 hits, all singles, which proved to be a significant factor in their loss. Five of Mesa’s nine hits went for extra bases, accounting for four tallies.
First baseman Juan Yepez was the sole Cardinals representative. The clean-up hitter singled once in four at bats with a strikeout. Yepez was subsequently erased from the base paths when the Desert Dogs’ number five hitter flied out into a 9-6 double play.
Wednesday’s game: vs. Javelinas (8-8), 12:35 pm MST/1:35 pm CT, Andre Pallante (0-1, 2.70)
