The Scottsdale Scorpions were shut out by the visiting Mesa Solar Sox on Wednesday evening. The Cardinal Nation Player of the Day Cooper Hjerpe fanned three in two perfect relief innings. Catcher Jimmy Crooks was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Scottsdale Scorpions 0, Mesa Solar Sox 7
Two St. Louis Cardinals prospects played in the Scorpions home loss to the Solar Sox Wednesday evening. Jimmy Crooks was in the starting lineup and Cooper Hjerpe pitched in relief.
In his first post-injury outing of more than one inning, Cooper Hjerpe pitched two perfect innings of relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits or walks and struck out three. To go with the Ks, Hjerpe induced two fly outs in the seventh and a pop out in the eighth.
Catcher Crooks hit eighth in the lineup. He was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. In his first at-bat in the third inning, Crooks grounded out to the shortstop. He struck out in the fifth and struck out again in the seventh. In the ninth, Crooks grounded out to second with the bases loaded for the last out of the game.
Scottsdale is 13-12 on the season and is in second place, two games back of the Surprise Saguaros.
Thursday’s game: vs. Salt River Rafters, Thaddeus Ward RHP (0-0, 3.00) vs. Wilmer Flores RHP (0-0, 4.50) 8:30 CT.
