To wrap up regular season AFL play, Scottsdale was topped by Mesa. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Inohan Paniagua, tossed three hitless innings with four strikeouts for Scottsdale. The Scorpions face Peoria in the Play-in Semifinals Friday.

The Scottsdale Scorpions (15-14) fell to the Mesa Solar Sox (14-16) on Thursday night at Sloan Park. Three Cardinals prospects appeared in the contest.
Jimmy Crooks started at catcher and hit in the third spot of the lineup. He singled in the first inning to drive in Scottsdale’s only run of the game. Crooks was 1-for-4 on the night.
At shortstop, Jeremy Rivas walked and went 0-for-2 in the eighth spot. TCN’s no. 47 prospect walked in the second inning.
Inohan Paniagua took the mound in the sixth inning and pitched three hitless innings for the Scorpions. TCN’s no. 27 prospect yielded one walk with four strikeouts in his scoreless outing.
Scottsdale’s lineup was 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position with only three hits and two walks. They struck out 14 times in the contest.
Scottsdale ended their regular season with this loss. The play-in semifinal is on Friday vs. Peoria at Camelback Ranch. The Scorpions owned a 5-0-1 record against the Javelinas during the regular season. Friday’s winner moves ahead to the finals on Saturday against Surprise (19-11) at Scottsdale Stadium.
